..So here we are at our once a year opportunity to remind ourselves of the bold action by our founding fathers and celebrating the amazing evolvement of the Declaration of Independence and ,,later , the Constitution...which for some also includes and opportunity to remind the other side of the coin..

..Our talk radio shows are full of interviews reminding us the this or that qualities of the founding fathers. History, history history. What happened, happened no matter what the spin mysters say. Some things I learned today
include:...A) George the 3rd was not insane during the trying times of 1776. His mental difficulties were still 20 years ahead of him. What he and his parliment couldn't get thru their head was that the American revolutionist were dead serious..B) The American standard of living at that time was one of the worlds highest..Many farmers with productive land and orchards and fat cows. The British Officer core couldn't understand how it was that all the well-off folks were being traitors to the Crown and Kingdom,,by not wanting to pay their taxes.
...With all the hoopla of the day,,I still give much thanks to whatever brought about one Ben Franklin. His low key presense thru-out the revolution,,his simple but to the core advise, his charm with the French Court and diplomatic skill,,etc,,his influence is everywhere and We are much better off today for it.....MEL

Here's wishing my fellow Watchers in the U.S. a happy 4th of July!

Has "The Greatest American" come around the airwaves yet in the States? It's that show where they get people across the country to vote for whom they think is their single greatest citizen, whether living or deceased. Britain started this whole concept and already had their go at it. We had our version of it in Canada recently.

Re: Benjamin Franklin...I'm guessing he would rank pretty high on any Greatest American list?

...I'd go to say..if one can get pass the nationality issue,,Ben Franklin was a Great Human Being. Fortunately his place and time was as it was...MEL

Franklin's overrated. He can't hold a candle to the Legendary Stardust Cowboy.

Dandelion don't tell no lies
Dandelion will make you wise
Tell me if she laughs or cries
Blow away dandelion

I'm afraid there's no denying
I'm just a dandelion

We were going to have it here in South Africa... but the whole thing was canned when the poll results were deemed to be politically unacceptable. coughwrongcolourcough

Anyway... happy 4th, American Watchers! :)

Happy 4th...even though I don't really know the significance of it (sorry for being so DUMB!). If it's anything like Australia day then you must have a wonderful day (lots of pies, beer and footie!).
