A Funny Coincidence

So I was there reading The Power that Preserves and I was getting to the climax. Then pop music started blaring through a wall. I didn't want to disturb my immersion by getting up and telling my dad to turn the volume down but neither I wanted to read to the tune of my dad's music taste. In my indecision I read about a page until I reached the following:

"Be silent," Lord Foul said venomously, "or I will roast you before your time."

Well, Foamfollower obeyed and so did my dad. The music silenced itself after a brief while and didn't return until Covenant was returning to the "real world". Apparently Lord Foul can be very convincing.

I was also reading those passages yesterday evening...and got interrupted at right about that point last night when my wife and daughter came home.

Foul had just struck Covenant on the mouth, creating the cut that duplicates the cut from the razor. TC was raising his head, undaunted and undefeated.

TWL is up next, and I am fired up to read it again after reading some of the excellent posting on this site. It has been many years, and although I recall many parts of the story, I feel as if I will be reading it for the first time with a different awareness - through a different lens, as it were.

Seventh Ward, welcome to the Watch! Hope your return to TWL leaves you energized and full of thoughts ready to be posted here.

Many feel TWL is a depressing or hard book to get through, but I think it's an exhilirating story to read. I'm in awe of SRD's writing throughout the Second Chronicles, and I'm not shy to say so.

Yeah, TWL is definitely one of my favourites. Such a shock after the 1st Chrons.

Oh yeah, definitely one of the best reads I've ever had... the return of the Land, seeing Thomas acting and doing exactly as we wanted to see him act in the First Chronicles... his tears at the sight of the Gaints, when he kicks ass with the Wild Magic... when he heals the Gaints...

Who can say this book did not rule?

TWL pissed me off so badly the first time I read it, but it is a tremendously good read.

TWL is a brilliantly written book, and Coercri is one of the finest scenes in the Chrons. That said, I do find it be an emotionally painful read in that SRD gives us back the Land, broken.

And that was a great story, Nerdanel.

And that was where the power of TWL lay. That was what made it such compelling reading. (And yeah, where he meets the Search...beautiful, and Coercri almost as...or even more..)

Nerdanel, another funny coincidence for you... Today I decided to start another re-read of the Chronicles, and I set up a CD I recently bought to listen to while I read. I was going through Lord Foul's Bane, and, just as I reached the point in which Foul transports Covenant away from Kiril Threndor and gives him the message for Covenant to bring to the Lords of Revelstone, the CD started a song with these lyrics:

Now, apart from the "sink teeth into your neck" sentence, listening to this while reading Foul's speech was a really weird coincidence... For a moment I almost felt a shiver going down my spine, sounded so much like Foul was making his presence known
