Right
It's a short local myth, I think most younger-generation people from Rome don't even know about it anymore... anyway, it goes like this. Foul, did you by any chance notice that the horse has a tuft of hair on its head that looks like an owl? Depending on what version of the story you know, either when all the goldening on the statue is gone or when the goldening completely covers it, the owl will hoot, the horse will neigh, and that will signal the end of Rome (or possibly the end of the world)...

Foul, trapped in the Arch of Time

Rocks

More rocks

Rocks, yet again!

Okay, I'll stop.

I lied. Here's one more.

Thank you, Mr. Bach concert!! You made my last night in Britain the best.

Look left, and then…

…right--hello, Colosseum!

Upper level

Looking over surrounding park/court/whatever from the Colosseum

Lower level

Street-side merchants + a sea of tourists = the area beside the Colosseum “One Euro! Postcard one Euro!”

Get out of my picture, assholes.

I overheard that there's a time--maybe one or two weeks out of the year--when tourists are allowed to walk right up to it. Probably just a rumor, though. Even if it was true, I'll bet all the 19th century folk already stole the lightweight stones.
And yeah, Matrixman, I use one of my Stonehenge pics for a desktop background. This one (which I haven't posted until now):

Most of the pics I've taken don't mesh well with my desktop icons, but I've found that one to be amiable enough.
My next wave of pics will be from Oxford, Canterbury, and Bath. I don't want to post the Roman ruins just yet--would make everything after boring.

Just finished looking through all of 'em in one sitting, LF! Mwa ha ha! (Yes, it's true, I don't have a life.)
Took me about an hour and a half, with minor interruptions. Listening to some Steve Reich music while perusing the pics made it a rather therapeutic experience. I saved a bunch for desktop background use (and for other nefarious purposes, of course).
Heh, feels kinda weird "touring" Europe via vacation photos of someone I've never met. (Did I mention I have no life?)

As most of you are well aware, my Britain-Italy pics are the best ever and received the MatrixMan seal of approval.
