It was a LARP (live action role playing) in one of (the many ) swedish forrests. The character I played was called Torv (translates as Peat, as in peat bog for example), a former house/farm-gnome, resently (a few hundered years or so) transformed into one of the creatures who live under earth. Torv was a rather small-scale evil creature, and very funny to play. The picture was taken with my own camera, just in black and white (I won´t do that again, it cost twice as much to get the pictures just because of this  ).

If someone want to see more LARP-pictures, you can always go to www.thule.vas.nu and onwards to "fotogalleri" (10 points to anyone who can spot me! I am almost in every LARP there  )

How come we don't get to do fun stuff like LARP's (or maybe we do and I just don't know about it)

So spill the beans Ylva :)

No, not very often, perhaps 3-5 times a year (the LARPs usually lasts for 1-5 days, the longer ones commonly takes place somewhere in a forest, the shorter often indoors). It takes a lot of time to prepare (learn a new world, sew clothes/pavilions, planning like for a hikingtrip - food, water, equipment and more). Not to mention the preparations made by the organisers (game masters if you like). But it is very much fun and worth every penny and hour spent!

Wow! You are really good Skyweir! I acctually thought that I was a little bit to well disguised as the gnome for anyone to spot me when "more normal" in appearance... True, I was "Marianna Vidarsdotter Silvervarg" (Marianna Vidar´s daugther Silverwolf, the heraldic banner with a white (silver) wolf on green background is hers) on Bankett på Imrarsborg (Banquet in the castle of Imrar/Imrar´s castle), thats 10 points. However, I feel I have to remove 2 points since the S:t Ahriks gille guess is wrong (I am in fact the nun-like thing called "Edla Stallare", Edla the rent stable-keeper)... And no, unfortunatelly I am the spitting one (Heidrun) on Gott år och fred (Happy /new/ year and peace). Not very nice to take pictures of people when they brush their teeth... There goes an other 2 points I´m afraid ;)

Sorry, should of course have answered this first. I think you have quite a lot of LARPers all over the globe (at least it seems so when you search the net). It is a rather big phenomenon in Sweden, the participants are of all ages, though the mean age is probably around 30 (can vary much between LARPs). A medium size LARP is around 100 persons, the biggest in Sweden had over 1000 persons, but that was in the beginning of the 90-ies and no one has attempted that again.

Yes, that is all very well, but what is a LARP?

It has also been named "interactive theater". You have a settning: a new world (or time or it can even be set in reality), all participants have a character they should play to the best of their ability, all participants commonly also has some kind of plot or goal to achieve during the limited time the LARP lasts. It is like a theater but without the audience and without a complete script. The most common form of LARP in Sweden is the Fantasy-LARP. But there are also, reality-LARPS, futuristic LARPs (commonly "post-disaster-LARPS"), 1920-LARPs, middle-age LARPs, viking-LARPs, Star Wars-LARPs, Monty Python-LARP (!), Hippie-LARPs, orc-LARPs and many more.

See also the topic "LARPs inspired by TCTC".

I would be happy to answer any questions you might have! I´m not sure this is under the right topic however...?

(And I know at least one American who has attended some LARPs in Sweden, so you can always come here!)

OK, I just posted "Fist's carnival act." Shaina is 8 months old now. For a few weeks, we've been performing this trick. (To great critical acclaim, I might add.) She can't balance for any amount of time at all yet, but her legs are strong enough to support her. And I have the uncanny ability to balance things like baseball bats, broomsticks, etc, on end. Heck, I can even balance a chair by putting just one leg onto my open palm like this! (I can hear your "ooo"s and "aahh"s from here!!) So here we are!! :D :D :D

I wonder how many times he dropped her before he got that picture? :)

I haven't dropped her, but I came close once. We tried a twirl, and... Well, we don't try twirls anymore.

I think it's just that you don't know about it. Larps exist all through out the US and the rest of the world.

Thank you emperorlordtony! I was beginning to think I was the only one in the whole world (and everybody who has read SRD knows how that feels until they find KW  )!

I put up a couple of new images in forum pics. One of them reminded me of the description of the voices of the forestal in TPTP... :)

"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past.
