Maus is pretty good Theo, although I've only read one or two, and it's years since youposted that.

Honestly, I don't think I've read either. Golden Age rings a bell, but I'm not sure.sgtnull wrote:jwaneeta, did you like Robinson's Golden Age? it is my favorite. I also liked Sentry from Marvel. the fake out was nicely done.
Oops, sorry I didn't reply sooner, Sarge. Not familiar with Kieth. Just checked out the entry on him. I'll be darned...didn't know he was co-creator of The Sandman!sgtnull wrote:Sienkiewicz is amazing. have you seen much of Sam Kieth's stuff?

I realize that this post is pretty old at this point, but I thought I'd mention that Spiegelman released another comic, In the Shadow of No Towers. It's definitely a good read, though I think Maus is more...I dunno how you'd say it, original as a graphic novel, but No Towers is my favorite simply in terms of content and illustrations. Sadly, it's been shadowed (not sure if the pun's intended or not, really) pretty heavily, I can't think of anyone who even knew it existed before I reccomended it to them.Theo wrote:Sticking to English-language graphic novels (there are a bunch of good Swedish ones but I'm pretty sure you've never heard of them)...
Several of my favourites have already been mentioned. Watchmen is great, a long-standing favorite - I supposed I would enjoy it even more if I had any real interest in superhero comics. I haven't read all Alan Moore's stuff, but I've enjoyed what I read - From Hell is great, though a bit on the heavy side (the movie version's got almost nothing to do with the book), and I liked the first part of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (the only one I've read so far).
Sandman is usually cool, although Dream himself is an utter smeghead (I tend to identify more with Merv Pumpkinhead). Preacher was funny most of the time, but I thought the resolution of the main storyline was disappointing - the best parts of that comic is all the bizarre characters. I also liked some of the Hellblazer/Constantine comics, but I haven't read all of them.
Otherwise, a big favourite of mine is Maus by Art Spiegelman - no one else read that? It's terrific although pretty disturbing.
