A Fresh Journey to the Tower

Yep, and somehow that seems more than a bit dishonest.

That's what King himslef says occured. I have no reason to doubt it.Menolly wrote:May I just inject how much I despise Rita Blakemoor? :gag:
Are y'all sure King only put stuff back in to The Stand when this complete edition came out? There's a lot of stuff in here that hadn't occured in 1978 yet (the original copyright date this copy has for the original edition)...

I do. There was no AIDS in 1978, and it's mentioned in the expanded version. King clearly added to the book when it was rereleased.A Gunslinger wrote:That's what King himslef says occured. I have no reason to doubt it.Menolly wrote:May I just inject how much I despise Rita Blakemoor? :gag:

:::double post, sorry:::
I'm about a third of the way into The Stand, and am finally starting to pick up on slight DT references; other than the obvious one of the antagonist being Flagg.
For instance, today Flagg just broke Lloyd out of prison. What stood out for me in this passage since starting DT was the stone/eye/key used to open the cell door, and the way Flagg rolls it across his knuckles while talking to Lloyd.
Then, although I was sitting doing hardly anything for seven hours at the water park today, I had to stop reading when I finished the part where Nick meets Tom.
I remember a lot of that stuff from the original edition I read back in the early 1980s. But, Beorn wasn't around then. Beorn isn't nearly as severely affected as Tom is, and while his face doesn't totally go inanimate when he's processing new information, there is a blankness in his eyes that we thought might have been petite mal seizures at one time. They only last about 30 seconds at a time, but the results afterwards of Beorn comprehending a new idea struck me as exactly what King described for Tom.
So, I silently wept after that passage, and then put the book away for today...

I'm on page 914 of 1141 in the edition of The Stand I'm reading, which is Beorn's copy he bought with a Bar Mitzvah gift card. According to Av's suggested reading order, I have seven more books to go.
I had checked out the series from the library something like two months ago for Beorn to read, and both he and Paul zipped right through it. Tomorrow is the due date and I was worried sick I would have to put holds on all these books to get them out again.
So, I went online and attempted to renew all seven of them again...and they went through!! I now have until June 3rd to try and finish my journey before I have to attempt to renew again. :::happy dance:::
Most likely I'll have one or two of them in tow at ElohimFest. With the time difference, and the fact that I am used to having to get up everyday at 5:30 am, I expect to have several hours where I won't want to make any noise in the wee hours of the mornings on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday at danlo's and Lady Tam's...
