Wow. . . BGB, that's awesome! Such history inherent there! And you have to know that this is the 50th anniversary of the publication of Kerouac's On the Road. . .

How's it compare to the real Pumpkins albums? I haven't really had much interest in Zwan or the solo work, so I've not been expecting much of the new album.

It was a fabulous 4 days at Wpg Folkfest last week: Great music, great food, great memories, and skies that held steady with no rain. This was the first year that I went for the full four days.

For extroverts, it's a chance to get up and move to the music. For me, Folkfest is a perfect opportunity to people watch. From young to old, from "neo-Bohemians" and "aging hippies" as the press likes to call them, to entire families, and teen and twentysomething couples. Lots of nubile skin on display. Aside from people watching, it's the amazing variety of music and diverse personalities of the performers that make this event such a compelling experience for me.

Some pics to amuse/bore you with:

Some favorite artists:

1. 3 members of quintet Ollabelle
2. The Duhks
3. Crooked Still
4. Johnny Cajun
5. African Guitar Summit

They were all wonderful, but I especially loved The Duhks, who bring zydeco, bluegrass, Cuban jazz, Celtic and a touch of gospel...and the fun guys of Johnny Cajun, who whip up bayou dance, jazz, funk and French Canadian folk music. 8)

(I'm aware there is a Music Festivals thread in Vespers. I don't visit Vespers much, but I leave it to the discretion of the Mods if they wish to move this over there.)

When you take you kids to those parks and they play in those "ball boxes" (like the one SoS was depicted in from last week) ... they are exposed to all manner of bugs n' greeblies. I saw an episode of Oprah where she and some scientist type went around testing various every day places to see whhat was dirty... those things (the balls in the chamber), supermarket rides, shopping carts, and hotel rooms ARE f'n NASTY!!!! Covered in fecal matter, strep, you name it. Not good. Hope he feels better!!! Why DID he get sick Sea?

We are headed up to Rhinelander WI to : www.hodag.com/

I don't like THIS kind of country musaic, but we have friends who are going, and I do like to look at pretty gals (my wife included!). My wife's friends like to have me carry their cooler, flirt with me, and keep other men off of them.

Who am I to say no?

Be careful, Guns, you're admitting to watching Oprah! :P

My niece's birthday/graduation party is today. I can't believe she'll be off to college in a few weeks. 8O

dunno. he wasn't that hungry this morning, had a nap this afternoon (which is UNHEARD of!) and then woke up tired, was just lying around in the lounge room and then next minute

The poor little possum!

Hopefully it's only a 24 hour bug thing as I'm supposed to be going to Melbourne on Wednesday to see Seasis and Morgan!

What Guns says about those ball pit places is so true.

However, I am of the opinion that many American parents of infants and toddlers (I do not know how compulsive parents have gotten in other countries) do more harm than good with their incessant anti-bacterial wiping and cleansing. I truly believe exposure to lower level germs and bacteria helps build a stronger immune system. Using these 99.9% germ killing antibacterials causes these children to enter day care, pre-school, or kindergarten with weaker immune systems than if they had been exposed and fought off these germs when they were younger.

But, that's just MHO...

I have a gig tonight; maybe I'll bring my camera and have the singer's gf take some pics of us.

That and what's the point of killing 99.9% of the bacteria, and just leaving the bacteria resistant ones around to breed, get sprayed again, and develop into something that'll infect your kid, and then be resistant to anti-biotics when they really need them?

This weekend I'm sitting trying to learn how to play 'Fake Wings' by See-Saw, getting smashed, and probably hanging out at the State Park with my dad and his Co-Workers tonight, I hope.

Of course, I only have Saturdays off on the weekends, but still.

Going to spend a long weekend in Fort Bragg.

My grandfather lived and worked there as a Special Forces operative. He did a lot of parachuting and other craziness there--some good years him. Will be a nice stroll down memory lane for him--an introduction to a different world for me. Hopefully I'll get some good writing material out of it.

We've already got our rooms reserved. Get ready for Foul, North Carolina!

Took one of my grandsons to a movie last night,
going to play some cards tonight (Canasta),
and tomorrow will be taking my daughter out for her 30th birthday.

Just another dull weekend.
