You're the first to list Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid. I love that movie, too. Was my favorite Western by a wide margin til Unforgiven came along.
The first movie that crossed my mind was the Cannonball Run. It's silly and juvenile, it'll never be on a greatest movies list, but I always have fun watching it. (Okay, I realize Cannonball Run might be scraping the bottom of the barrel, but still...go, Captain USA, go!)

Cannonball Run and Smokey & the Bandit are perfect examples of what I'm talking about. I know every line in those movies, and will stay up 'till all hours of the night watching them, but it's never occur to me to put either of them in my top 10.

I felt the same way until The Hi-Lo County came along, I don't know why: because it's so hard edge? Because Woody and Billy blow me away? Because it's shot in NM and written by a New Mexican? Because Sam Eliott and James Gammon are the perfect aging cowboys? Because of my undying crush on Penelope Cruz? Or, because the (repeated) theme-song by Carter Burell is so damm cool. (I love Tombstone, Silverado and All the Petty Horses too...)

Umm...it's been a while since I've seen this response, but....yeah...Joe Vs the Volcano is one of those unsung movies whose brilliance is missed the first time you see the movie. On the surface, it's a dumb little movie. I saw it and enjoyed it a bit, but noticed a few little oddities about it. My girlfriend at the time said, "did you notice that symbol that kept appearing throughout the movie?" We rented it later, tried to figure out where the symbol appeared, tried to figure out what it meant, and it just kept getting better and better with each viewing. There really is a lot of hidden brilliance in that movie.
