Anyone Ever Suggest.... as Mhoram?
There was a copy of entertainment weekly that had he and Javier Bardem on the cover where he looked JUST LIKE Mhoram in my mind's eye. it wigged me out.
Thoughts?

that works for me, he needs blue eyes with yellow flecked contact lenses but he could definately work..he has the attitude for it too.A Gunslinger wrote:

OMG, his name is John Hurt??? His son works for me, Michael Hurt, looks JUST like him.....
....maybe he's not his son, but there's surely a family something or other....

I think DD Lewis would be great as Mhoram. Hell, he'd be great as anyone but seeing as how Mhoram is such an affable and charismatic fellow, I vote DDL over John Hurt. But one thing John Hurt as over DDL is his age as I always pictured Mhoram being a venerable sort. Ian Mclellan (sp?) would probably fall into contention but I think too many similarities between he and Gandolf would be made at that point.

Not necessarily. Ian McKellan isn't necessarily known for his role as Gandalf among those who don't know the movies; it took a while before I minally made the connection that the guy who played Magneto in X-Men was the same guy who played Gandalf in the Rings. It was the voice that did it for me; not his appearance.Damack wrote:you mean as Foul's voice? Because I don't think you could have an actor accurately portray someone as ethereal as Foul.
I think he'd play a great part in this movie that's never gonna happen....

My cast:
Bloodguard - too difficult. Would need several actors from the same ethnic group and with not more than a slight variation of physical features, who could convince without soudning Clive-Owenish, that is, ironing boardlike. Mind, I liked him in "Closer".
Mhoram - DD Lewis, alright.
Foamfollower - Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden or Gabriel Byrne.
The Harrow - Christian Bale
The Mahdoubt - Amy Madigan
Foul - Bela Lugosi - ok, seriously, Neil Young.

Willem Dafoe all the way
One of the most critical choices in a film version of the Chronicles would be that of Lord Mhoram. He embodies the very essence of the Land's Earthpower and the Vow of Peace and it would take a masterful actor to portray both his serenity and the underlying power that makes him the most dangerous Lord. Additionally, his interactions with Thomas Covenant are the keystone to unraveling his Unbelief.
Based upon the body of his cinematic work Willem Dafoe could deliver a spectacularly convincing performance. His genuine human vulnerability in his portrayal during the otherwise forgettable film Light Sleeper transformed it into a genuine classic. Willem pouring his entire soul into the question "Is there any hope for me?" actually brought tears to my eyes.
Additionally, he closely resembles Donaldson's description of Lord Mhoram. What do you think?

Willem's done some great work, and the look is pretty good...might have to light and make-up him...just a little too weathered looking nowadays.
DD Lewis could definitely do the job, too, but I'd like to save him for Angus in "The Gap" books...the only actor I know of who has been convincing as both heroic and completely putrid human beings. [and everything in between...snooty english aristocrat, scrawny innocent rebel, street-tough gay man]
