It's actually not that demanding, the procedural nature of the game means a strong processor is needed but the video requirements are quite generous.

Processor 2.0 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
RAM XP: 512 MB / Vista: 768 MB
Graphics card 128 MB with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
Hard disk drive space At least 6 GB

Supported Video Cards:

ATI Radeon(TM) series
9500, 9600, 9800
X300, X600, X700, X800, X850
X1300, X1600, X1800, X1900, X1950
2400, 2600, 2900,
3650, 3850

NVIDIA GeForce series
FX 5900, FX 5950
6200, 6500, 6600, 6800,
7200, 7300, 7600, 7800, 7900, 7950
8400, 8500, 8600, 8800

Hmm yeah my PC might struggle. It's fine with the Creature Creator that is out now but the full game may be a bit much...
Think my card is a GeForce 5600 and i'd have to check if my CPU is a P3 or a P4 :(
Gonna have to check when I get home!

Judging from the Creature Creator, it looks less demanding on my system than Half-Life 2 (!). I think I'll wait for the reviews, as it seems a collection of others games (each phase of evolution takes its play-style from another game, such as the bacteria phase resembling Pac-Man).

And you can guess what all the 12 year olds do with Creature Creator. They even have a new name for it:

Sporn.

Tim (from Ctl Alt Del) has a post about it, where he decides it's worth having penis-shaped creatures in your universe just so your guys have someone to exterminate :)

There've already been stories of people having their creatures deleted and being sent warning messages for stuff like that. Though I don't know how they could keep up that censorship with the sheer number of creatures people will be creating.

Spore is one of the new breed of games which recognises that ever-increasing system reqs are forcing more and more people (and therefore potential customers) out of PC gaming, so it should be fairly easy going. I'd imagine that if your PC can play WoW then it'll be fine with Spore and if it can run Crysis, then it'll eat Spore for breakfast.

I had a play around with the creature creator and made a couple of dudes, I couldn't figure out how to give them fatter bodies though. The creature creator is fun to mess about with for a while, but I'd really want some way of testing how they'll fight if I was going to spend more time on it. Did anyone else have sound issues while they were using it? Mine went really crackly whenever I entered 'test drive' mode.

Re fatter bodies: highlight a vertebrae and use the mouse wheel to fatten them up :)
And yeah, my systems stutters when going into the test drive too, pushes the cpu a bit i guess.

What's you Spore Space address?

I'm actually interested in the space phase of this game. A toy universe to tool around in sounds pretty interesting. If you dig deep enough into Will Wright's You Tube demos for Spore, he pulls up Earth and our solar system.
You can terraform Mars or check out Saturn's rings apparently. If there are humans present or any other earthly life forms running amok that will remain to be seen.

I hope they allow you to make super monsters with UFO's species editor so I can unleash Ghidorah on some Furby home world. I figure all the Predator fans in Spore are getting ready for the hunt.

I just saw a G4 tv show take on this. This sounds like this is going to be big! I think they said Millions of possible life forms to be made and evolve, all depending on choices you, the creator, make. And to transact with others creations. I am really looking forward to this one.
Cowboy: Why you doin' this, Doc?
Doc Holliday: Because Wyatt Earp is my friend.
Cowboy: Friend? Hell, I got lots of friends.
Doc Holliday: ... I don't.

Will Wright the creator of Spore and the Sims spoke at the GDC and E3 convention basically saying that he's packaged a toy Galaxy with near 7 million planets and stars to explore. Basically you could play this game till you die an old man, never truly seeing it all.

You can create Epic Creatures ( Godzilla like Beasts) and flight has been video taped in actual gameplay for creatures that have wings.

No one has confirmed any water creatures for the finished game. Back in 2005 there was a ocean creature level but the word is they nixed it.

I have to buy a new computer in order to play this game. DRAT! DAMN YOU INTEL DUO PROCESSORS!

Well, when I get one I plan to devote my time in making a planet controlled by Sand Gorgons.

Oh hot damn! We've got to make sandgorgons in Spore!

You don't need a dual core processor to run Spore though, just a 2GHz Pentium 4 or AMD equivalent (which would be one of the Athlon XPs between 2400 and 3200 I believe). The video card and RAM are pretty important too , though.

I run on Mac, so you have to have the Intel processor version in order to play Spore on Apple. Sucks to be me! :P
