Phishing and Spam IQ test

Post by Damelon »

Here's a link to a test on Phishing and Spam. It's designed to see if you can tell the difference. I got 9 of 10

I got 8 out of 10. One of the ones I missed was sort of situational, tho -- if I had actually received the e-mail and knew that a) I didn't have an account there and b) I hadn't just signed up for electronic statements, then I would have known it was phishing for sure.

I got the Discover Card and the Downey Savings ones. But they were both "call this number" I think, so they seemed legit. Once they asked for my info over the phone, I'd flip them the bird and hang up.

9/10, but I don't think some of what they called real was convincing...the terrible spelling and grammar for example...

8/10, but that was because I was more cautious than they would have liked me to be.

8/10 because I thought two "legitimate" ones seemed fishy to me. ;)

I got 9 out of 10. The Bank of Choice letter tripped me up, although in my defense I'd say that example was pretty borderline (and the official explanation would seem to agree with me). :P

Bank of Choice was one of the ones I missed, too.

Ah, well, at least all of us here (who've taken the quiz so far) aren't the kind who will be easily deceived by scams. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to attend to an important e-mail from the Bank of Nigeria...

8/10, but when I clicked on "Why?" for one of the incorrect ones (question 1) it explained why a completely different one (question 10) was wrong. Not sure I trust the scorekeeping.

Yeah, I noticed that the "whys" are not lined up with the question, but all the emails are explained and they all make sense to me.
