I wear a drab gray fleece-y scarf, no frills - because I need the warmth - it has 0 to do with fashion. It is all about conserving my now precious body heat. In my growing old age, and my new svelterishnicity, I have apparently lost the ability to maintain my body temperature in the winter months. I used to love sweatshirt-and-shorts winter weather. Now, that is young-uns' foolishness. I am not complaining, however.

cravats are a little too 18th century for me.
And were they ever an American style?

I used to hate scarves (I have issues with things being too closely around my neck--makes it difficult to breathe--I don't even wear shirts with high collars, and I don't zip up my coat all the way), but a few years ago I started to like them, and now I love them so much that I wear them all the time from November to April, even indoors most days.

It's 22 degrees, the wind is whipping, there are @12 inches of heavy wet snow piled on top of 2 inches of ice, my snowblower broke, I have 225 feet of 5ft wide sidewalk and 50 ft of driveway to clear.
yea, I'm gonna wear a scarf.
