I hate you..well not you the forum: and 2 Atlas sightings
Greetings,
I just finished up the entire published series of TC as we have it for the 37th time and I sit with hands shaking and lip quivering once again. Why? Because even though I knew it was coming, he still was able to make me curse and praise his name at the same time. I hate you, and I adore you, and you Mr. Donaldson, are a bloody genius!!
Bravo, Kudos - now I wait in misery again - till 2010.
So, there I'm done, or so I thought...
But no no, I go online to Ebay and just "look" for Donaldson stuff, you know, another set of the 1st or 2nd chronicles, maybe another boxed set to back up the three I already own. Whew-hew, a signed 1st edition hm, that's not bad.
But here is my question, are you hooked on the books in this series so much that you already have more than enough copies to last you through a nuclear winter?
I can't stop. Really!
I see a boxed set I think, well I can give that one to a friend, or even perhaps have Stephen sign it for me. Then I look and see a hardbound collection and I'm like - oh, that would be nice to have.
The reality, I share with only my closest friends and those whom I find worthy of TC.
Anyways, let me know if you're like this.
Cheers,
Silverleaf

By the way, in my last escapade online, this might interest a couple of you - 2 copies of the Atlas of the Land on Ebay right now.
NOTE: I am not associated with these, but am passing them on for you that may be looking for this excellent book.

I have far too many copies. In fact, I could never have enough! If I had more money I'd buy every edition ever published (and not just TCTC...anything Donaldson will do me)!
I have copies on the bookshelf, copies on my bedside table, my "you may borrow this" copies, copies that prop up my wobbly table, my special copies in an airtight box that I get out on REALLY special occasions to look at and show friends and then put away again. ...not that my friends are usually that interested but I don't care!
Am I obsessed? Nah!

Spoiler
and...no...I don't actually have a SRD book propping up my table...that was kinda an exaggeration!

I only stock one copy of everything - which is problematic because most of those copies are so worn and dog-earred that they are on the verge of collapse. Every time one dies, I replace it, but now all this talk of the Nuclear Winter has got me worried...

I still have my falling apart copies that I originally read. No front or back cover on LFB. And a version that is in good condition, but still the cover for the book series (the Sweet cover) when I came across it.

I use to have two copies of TCTC in paperback and Daughter of Regals... I say use to because whomever I lent them to took them with them when they decided to disappear off the face of the earth
I also own all his books except for Man Who Tried to Get Away in hardcover... that's my obsession, if I slightly like a book, I must get it in hardcover.

Sigh.
I *had* the entire 1st and 2nd Chrons in hardcover. Sci-Fi Book Club editions of the 1st Chrons, with the Sweet covers; 1st editions of the 2nd Chrons. I also had 1st editions of Mordant's Need and all 5 of the Gap books -- all in hardcover.
I don't know what the hell was wrong with me the day I went through my book collection and gave them all away.
I have since bought used paperback copies of the 1st and 2nd Chrons and Mordant's Need. (I'd forgotten I had Mordant's Need, actually, until after I bought "new" copies at the used bookstore for Magickmaker. Ah well, she needs her own copies anyhow....) I'm missing one of "The Man Who" books and one of the short story collections, I think. Hmm, maybe I should start hunting down replacement hardcovers for the Chrons...
I had a copy of the Atlas, too, but it went to the ex in the divorce. The girls and I had SRD sign it for him, as a Father's Day present, at the last Albuquerque Elohimfest.

Nah, one copy of everything is fine for me. Like Earthfriend, I'll replace them when they die. (Although I'd make an exception for my mis-matched WGW, but if I did, I'd get rid of the old one.) My LFB is still the one that an employee of my dad's gave me, nearly 20 years ago, introducing me to the Chrons. (It's been repaired many times.

You should be a good boy and buy your books and stuff in a shop. What do you think Mr Donaldson earns if people buy his stuff second-hand online? How is this man supposed to pay his bills, feed his family and be able to buy typewriter-ribbons to continue writing TLC if no one buys NEW copies in shops?

Just ordered a set from a local bookstore, boxed and clean. Now if I can only find a collection in hardback I'll be set...for a few weeks.
