What is Second Life? Have you gone there?
Moderator: Orlion
I saw a documentary that showed a lot of excerpts of it.
You start off in the outer corridors of a moon-base type thing, and the first person you meet is the creator.
Only, he's not as cool as the Creator in SRD. He's set himself up as some kind of local God and he wants your cold hard cash.
Anyone read those tawdry Shadowrun novels years ago? In twenty years it might be like that. But until they can hardwire it straight into my nervous system in the same way as that I'm not really interested. Probably/especially not even then.

This SecondLife thing is pretty bazaar. It places role playing at a whole new level. The most amazing thing I find is that it crosses the boundary between virtual and 3d. For example, you can set up a virtual business on SecondLife, for instance maybe you design and sell jewelry. You can open up a virtual shop, sell virtual jewelry to a virtual people with their tender called Linden Dollars. Now the interesting thing is that as any country, these foreign currency Linden Dollars can be converted into hard currency.danlo wrote:I read an article in the paper today about some huge VR world on the internet where you can buy property and you 'av' wanders around and does stuff. Said it originated at some westcoast university and has been on the internet for four years and is all the rage...
The economy is based on the Linden™ dollar (L$), Second Life's virtual micro-currency. Residents can buy and sell L$ on the LindeX™ the official virtual currency exchange of Second Life. In 2008 more than USD $100 million worth of L$ were bought and sold on the LindeX.
As I understand it from what I am reading, there is actually a possibility of setting up a real income generating virtual business.
This stuff really set the writer in me on fire.

I ve spent a bit of time on Second life and find it cool , I go to listen to live DJ,s playing in various venues from Jazz to rock to dance music . and the people are friendly in general I suppose if you visit fairly often.
A lie well told and told often enough,I'm damned if the truth will ever catch up with it!
Wasn't there a law suit recently where some guy sued his Second Life "wife" for emotional damages or something because they got divorced in the Second Life world but were never married in the real world or something....?
Is this real life?!
*edit* Here it is! There's also a bunch of law suits centering around debauchery and naughty bits.
