Frank Frazetta, RIP

Frank Frazetta, Pioneering Fantasy Artist, Dies At 82
PHILADELPHIA — Pioneering fantasy artist Frank Frazetta died Monday in a Fort Myers, Fla., hospital, a manager said. He was 82.

Frazetta had been out to dinner with his daughters Sunday but suffered a stroke at his Boca Grande home later that night and was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital, manager Rob Pistella said. A hospital spokeswoman confirmed the death, as did his daughter Heidi Frazetta Grabin.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Seriously. :( It was freakin' extraordinary when he came on the scene. Difficult for those who weren't alive yet to understand, since there's so much of that sort of thing around now, and much of it very good. He was awesome.

I can remember getting fantasy calendars every Christmas by Frazetta. I saved them for years, but managed to lose them between various moves.

He was incredible.

Thus the world loses another of its true masters. Very Sad.
