Help getting started as an e bay seller.

Post by peter »

HELP!!!!!
Hi Guys, Need some advice as to how to start selling on e bay but how not to loose money in the process. Heres the problem. I have some fairly expensive items to sell on e bay of which there is a fair likelyhood they will not sell - particularly if I set a high reserve on them to stop the risk of giving them away. But whenever I try to put them on with this reserve the fee's for selling go right through the roof. Question - will I have to pay these fees even if the item does not sell. If so it looks like a no no since as I say the non sale is the most often likely result.

Any selling tips you guys can give would be really appreciated - I (sob) don't know who else to ask

Sorry, I dunno anything about it. But I'm pretty sure a few Watchers use it quite a bit, so maybe they'll have some answers for you.

if they are antiques - go to an auction house.

if they are specialty items - try adverting them off of ebay.

It's been a while, but if it's normal auctioning [not a fixed price, or a store set-up, or commercial/industrial/automobile stuff]:
You have to pay the "insertion fee" whether or not it sells. But that should have a maximum of $2.00 per listing. [which kicks in, and stays flat, at $200. whether that's your starting bid number, or your reserve number...there's a scale for things less than $200.]
None of the other fees should be payable unless it sells.

Patience. Sometimes you have to wait for the right buyer. In the mean time, try selling unwanted DVDs and other such cred to raise your credibility.
