THE MAN WHO TRIED TO GET AWAY Thread
This one is the hardest to find. Currently it is in print in Europe, in the three-volume omnibus titled THE REED STEPHENS NOVELS. You can order it from Amazon.co.uk, but I found mine in a secondhand bookstore. As a single volume it is due to rerelease this November.

Hard to find? Tell me about it. No copies at my library, and it's the only book I've ever had them come back and say they couldn't do an inter-library loan.
In fact, why am I even reading this thread? SRD manages to make Fought Alone fairly spoiler free, so...

"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

www.alibris.com/search/detail.cfm?bindi ... 2&qsort=pr $353

$160
It's amazing some of the disparaties in pricing you can find between different sellers for the same book, though.

Still, the only way to get ...GET AWAY, if you don't want tospend a lot of money, is the Orion omnibus. It will be published in paperback in the UK in May 04 and in the US in november 04, thats half a year in-between. If this applies to Runes...it will be published in the states around may 2005. This doesn't surprise me. It was the same with Reave the Just...
I've started to get confused by the time-line in the Reed Stephens books. I have the omnibus edition, and I read Brother and Partner first, then I got The Man Who Fought Alone as an eBook. What confuses me is that Alone seems to carry on straight from where Partner left off, with Brew recovering from being shot by Muy Estobal. Where does The Man Who Tried to Get Away fit in? I'd have thought that it would have been the third book in the series, being the third in the omnibus and all.

Hey, I didn't say I believed it; I just said they said it. I do expect 'The Man Who Killed His Brother' then, though.

Well, I am sure many of you have already picked this one up. Now we can discuss it. Unlike others in this forum, I beleive the books shoud be read in the order they are written. If these were just regular pulp-detective novels it would not make a difference. But SRD has made these stories, like most of his works, about redemption. Lost souls trying to find a way back to being human.
Brew goes through a really interesting change through the course of these four books. By the time he 'fights alone', he is a calm, more self-aware individual who has taken better control of his life.
I can't wait for the fifth book after SRD gets through the final Covanent series (10 years later!). Will Brew take on some martial arts mentality? Will he get back with Ginny? Will there be a final confrontation with El Señor?...
Any discussion about Brew's development?

I remember now that SRD talked a little in Portland about the MAN WHO series. He considers the final confrontation with El Senor to be an integral part of the story arc. He also mentioned the possibility that he might discover he needs to add another book to do everything he wants to with Brew.

Well, if Brew is gonna confront el Señor, then there has to be at least one more book, because he sure as heck didn't confront el Señor in "The Man Who Fought Alone".
