well i am astonished to say i just made it through the endless chase scene that is Quantum of Solace and, immona have to agree on daniel craig for roland at this point. the guy can do stoic. and he can also look like hell.
warmed over. like in a brown paper bag on somebody's front porch and lit on fire stomped on. and still look good. :grinlove: exactly how i picture Roland and...blows away kurt in the eyes department. heh.

pos movie, btw, but it has daniel craig in it.

While I was noodling around looking for information on Christian Bale's role (or non-role) in Dark Tower, I noticed that they were batting around the idea of not having Susannah be black. Jennifer Carpenter's name was batted around. (Dexter's skinny sis.) At least one other.

The latest rumor is that Naomie Harris (PotC) has been cast. So this is probably nothing to really be worried about.

However, I do admit that that idea bothered me. Too much of Susannah's character would be changed, and back-story.

On the other hand, I have to admit it's not critical to Dark Tower. So it bother's me in a purist sort of way, I have to admit.

Anyone else have feelings on Susannah Dean being white in the Dark Tower film adaptation?

yeah my feeling is that it would be a MAJOR mistake casting susannah as white. wrong wrong wrong.

i don't even know what the point of that would be. it's not like there are not enough african-american actresses to choose from. and i don't know how to articulate this but, the character would "lose weight". susannah being black and from the time period that she's from adds so much weight to the character, so much dimension. to negate that would be to disempower the character.

in film options frequently the author has no say in who is cast. they've sold the option for the film and that's the end of it. for example, as i've said before in another thread, tom cruise has been cast in lee child's One Shot as jack reacher, a character that is a full foot taller than tom cruise. jack reacher is 6'5", a really big man, and that is part of what makes him jack reacher. however, child does not have a problem with this casting, he is just happy to be having the film made and feels cruise is a big name and quite good actor and will do the part justice and doesn't feel that the height thing will, in any significant way, hinder cruise's characterization of reacher.
and altho i was HORRIFIED that cruise is playing reacher, i've come to agree with child on this issue. it's a done deal and after all, i didn't think cruise could play Lestat either, but he did a pretty decent job with that (he was certainly better at Lestat than brad pitt was with Louis!! lol.)

having said that, i still think that not casting an african-american in the role of susannah would be a serious chink in the believablity of the character.
and furthermore, if they do end up casting debra morgan i'm going to have a major hissy fit! (did you know jenifer carpenter is michael c hall's ex wife? they just split up late last year)

I thought Pitt was pretty good as Louis myself...

So wait, what? Casting? is there gonna be a movie or a series or something?

(Nothing wrong with being purist. )
