Here's my family's Southern breakfast (I'm from Texas):

Buttermilk biscuits with sausage gravy
Eggs with salsa
Bacon
More buttermilk biscuits with butter and strawberry jam and/or honey
Sausage
Milk
Orange juice
Coffee
Sweet tea
Ham
Grits (if you like'em, not everyone in my family does. I like mine with butter and strawberry jam)

The three times I've been there I've hated it every time! Food was way over salted and oddly bland seeing as how the salt seems to be the only food accent they know. I was at one on the coast and ordered a fish dish and the fish was processed. The ocean was HALF A BLOCK AWAY and they couldn't serve me FRESH fish? Of course it was probably my bad in assuming that I would get fresh fish a half a block from the ocean in any chain restaurant. Still... soggy overcooked broccoli, iceberg lettuce with a slice of tomato and a slice of cucumber smothered in dressing, two times explaining to the waitress that I wanted UNsweetened tea, NO SUGAR, NO SUGAR SUBSTITUTE, JUST TEA AND ICE. and luke warm rice pilaf cooked into sodden mush pretty much said it all for me to never set foot in a cracker barrel again.
Now if I could just find a way to wear live bees as jewelry all the time.....

Interesting how even a "Southern" breakfast has regional variations....

Vader, how did it turn out?

Sorry, it took a while. My ISP effed it up big time (can we f*** it? Yes, we can.)

It turned out to be very good. Our guests were very pleased and we all enjoyed the food. I couldn't take as many pictures as I would have liked to, but I was busy and the guests were hungry and couldn't wait to start eating.

Image
Chicken fried pork - purdy much like our "Schnitzel".

Image
Cornbread. Next time I'll use less sugar and more salt.

Image
Crawfish salad and smoked salmon on "petite" pancakes.

Image
The mud pie. Pieces of. Forgot to a picture of the whole thing.

Image
Scrambled eggs - you guessed.

Image
Something to die for. Fried chicken, brined and soaked in buttermilk for hours before frying. The brine definitely made the difference. Can you spell delicious?

Image
If you excuse the empty plate you'll see between my toaster and the blender a bit of cooked crawfish tails in mayonnaise, coleslaw, a quiche with green asparagus, the chicken fried pork and some cheese.

We also had sausage, biscuits, red eye gravy (grease and caffeine - an amazing combination) and bacon. Might not all be classical southern stuff but it we enjoyed it. I won't eat for two weeks now. :p
