How many of y'all have kept the same email address for the last 10 years? :D

It's a nice idea, but some of the real old-timers who I miss probably aren't getting them. (Still, no reason not to do it for everybody else.)

I have had the exact same address for the last .....oh.......since computers were invented. I just keeping adding addresses.

I think a monthly blast is a good idea provided someone wants to do the work.

This has been a really good thread. As I see it, here's what we've come up with so far:
  • - Current member activity is vital to the Watch. We need to visit regularly, post regularly, engage, contribute, and stimulate.

    - We have restructured the home page to reflect current activity on the Watch (thanks, jay!)

    - We need to try and attract new members through
    • - encouraging friends and people we meet to join (and read the books),
      - communicating the other things we do well on the Watch: SRD, sci-fi and fantasy, politics etc.
      - linking the site on Facebook, blogs posts, comments etc.
    - Continue Welcoming and encouraging newbies:
    • - responding to their posts and threads,
      - letting them know about stuff that goes on on the Watch etc.
    - Think about finding ways to tempt back former members: mail shots, direct requests etc.

    - Be prepared to take advantage the future SRD publications (fantasy novelette, short story collection) to promote the site.
Let me know if I have missed anything and I'll add it in.

Haven't got time for a complete thread read before posting so sorry if this has been raised earlier.

One thing that I think is crucial is getting people to undestand that the Chrons discussion forms only a relatively small part of what actually goes on here. Two people who I have in the past mentioned the Watch to [both who have read Chrons 1 & 2] have failed to join because they just really did not understand the quality of the debate they could partake in, in countless other areas. To discuss science in the Loresratt or philosophy in the Close, politics in the Tank or food in the Galley; hellfire, all of life is here if you do but seek it out.

This is the message to take out to those you would interest in becoming members. Don't let them think that they will be endlessly discussing the Chrons in ever more trivial detail, like some sad third rate Star-Trek discussion site.

We haven't had a thread hit 9999 posts since 2010, and none of the runners up are even close. What happened to us? We need to right this wrong.

ok then..........then definitely pink sparkly ponies.........just keep 'em in your closet with that frilly nightgown and the sword.

Then cheer up and stop seeking external validation. It won't work around here. You know that, I know that, it don't work and you will only get frustrated and then I will have to straighten you out ......again. ;) And if you get ME frustrated I will never stop for photos again. All your pictures will come from a moving vehicle.

I found this!

It has very little to do with external validation when you're asking for concrit or want to discuss how others visualize the characters. That's pretty much the entire purpose of it, not mindless praise.

PS. If a post has a pony in it, don't take it 100% seriously. It's like the equivalent of...filling a few rows with twinkly, pastel-colored emoticons.

I may have misunderstood you, I have been doing a lot of that these days. My head has been screwy. So take me with a grain of salt. I just don't like hearing you upset.

Same. I don't often comment on the art-themed areas because I am not an artist and can't contribute much beyond a  , but maybe sometimes a  is better than lurking and admiring in silence.

I think you may have (remember what I told about processes such as redlining in the breakfast table).

If you aren't familiar with common fandom terminology:

Probably. Like I said, things are whacky for me these days. Very whacky. I misunderstood three threads just today. That being said, I think I need to take a break from computers for a while.....

Yesss... Ponify the Tank!

Edit: Apparently 'Ponify' is actually the correct term for such an action. I thought I'd made it up on the spot.

I love the internet...
