Julie and I belonged to a Vincent Donofrio board. it was a blast! all these women from all over America and the world and me. I miss that board, it was really great fun. I even made a mixed cd of various songs that reminded me of his show Law & Order, Criminal Intent. (LOCI) we even have stayed in touch with one of the girls from England.

we had a great friend in Australia, exchanging gifts and books and music. but tragedy befell her family and we drifted apart. I really miss her. she sent me Vegimite. I finished the entire jar. worst tasting stuff on earth. :) she introduced us to great music from John Williamson and Kasey Chambers. and Slim Dusty.

anyway I had SRD listed as a fave under my profile and one of the women there told me about this place.

and for the past ten years I have been to two E-Fests and met some life long great friends. I have communicated with more just on the Watch. I somehow conned you into making me a Mod.

I have become a much better poet because you forced me to work on it. I know the early stuff is no great shakes but I needed to work through it to find my voice. thank you for your patience.

I got to visit the desert because of the E-Fests. I have seen Carlsbad, the Grand Canyon, the Painted Desert, the Petrified Forest, Texas Stonehenge, the Carlsbad Zoo, the Alamo and so much more. I met SRD. I walked in on the cast party for Breaking Bad. I got escorted out from the cast party of breaking bad.

and I met a musician that I became the number one fan of, Coz. the importance of that can not be overstated.

and I want to give a special, public thanks to two people in particular who have been my greatest fan (Luci) and my best representative (Jenn)

and I met John Duncan, George and Pam, the Ozzie Michael, the Irish Michael, Lurch, Cag and his crew, Dandelion and Atomic. Avatar who put up with me in the Tank. and Cail who didn't. and Danlo who had every right to be annoyed. and Coz' beautiful wife Phyllie. and Ali who has been a steadfast friend. and who signed all of her books for me. and Lorin.

and the Duchess who I miss very much. and the Sheriff of Lyton who I miss just a bit less. and Esmer who annoyed me. and Orlion who has great taste in music.

and anyone else I've forgotten. thank all of you.

Search engine. I can't remember exactly what I searched for, but with one of the results I just thought: "Oh, a forum! Cool!"

That would have been my next question to folks, since many of us seem to have wandered in via search engine. Were you looking for a forum, or just looking for general SRD info or an answer to a question?

I was looking for SRD-themed music, and was drawn in by a post saying that Blue Öyster Cult's Veteran of the Psychic Wars could be about Darsint.

(And yes, I do know what the song is really about - Moorcock got me into fantasy metal in the first place. But I can also see why it would remind someone of Mordant's Need.)

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?

Hey Sorus, your sig suddenly reminded me of this:

Search engine, but I don't remember if I searched for Thomas Covenant or Stephen Donaldson. Sometime prior to that, I had come across a website where I read a rumor that there was to be a 3rd Chronicles, and I emailed the webmaster of the site to inquire, only to confirm that it was indeed a rumor. I will always wonder if that was the original EZ Board.

Pretty sure I searched on the author's name. But we're talking 14+ years ago, so I could be wrong.

I had no clue this board had been around that long!

Then again, I didn't ask...

It has, but not in its present incarnation. Some of us have been here since the bad, old EZ Board days. There's a Watch history around here somewhere. As I recall, some of the info in it is even true.

We migrated here sometime after 9/11 -- so, 2002-ish. But I was a member at the original board for perhaps a year prior to that.

I was just wondering whether we were coming up on the Watch's 15-year Watchiversary. Maybe we could do something with that to attract more members. I wonder if Jay knows exactly when he and Alynna started the board. Hmm...

I was obsessing over one of the Covenant books I'd just read and wanted people to talk about with it...

Google showed me a forum on LiveJournal that was discussing SRD's stuff.
I actually signed up for a LiveJournal account so that I could get into that LJ chat forum.
Never really wrote on that blog.

There was a girl there who had cheerfully posted about how awesome she thought KW was... she was also talking about a recent meetup/mini-e-fest....... that her mom hosted at her place.

So there you have it... *drumroll* ...aliantha.
one of your kids talked about this forum on another SRD forum on the internet, and I saw it.
Word of mouth, basically.

Stephen R. Donaldson's website page had a link to Kevin's Watch...that's how I found it, back in 2009. But I didn't join up until halfway through reading The Last Dark, and didn't start posting until I'd finished that book (just felt like the right time to join in the conversation).

I like that. My sig is from a song, which I would love to link on Youtube, except it isn't on there.

Anyway, it's Raise Your Red Flags by Ego Likeness

So many assassins,
but which one is yours?
Mind your intuition
but I've said this before
I've adorned my skin with symbols and wings
and other helpful things
And the blood that I shed
was a warning in red
to remind me, to remind me...

Burn your white flags, refuse to surrender
then raise your red flags to remember
to remember

Hammers on nerve
fingers on bone
And though I have shed my skin
I can't tell if I've grown

Burn your white flags, refuse to surrender
then raise your red flags to remember
to remember

I have poisoned myself for the last time,
for the last time
for the last time

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?

8O :haha:

I just asked Batty whether it was her, and she said, "It's entirely possible." MagickMaker also had an LJ blog, but I just looked through it (she only ever wrote a few entries in it) and it wasn't her. So yeah -- you've met my older daughter. That's hilarious!

EDITED TO ADD: Batty just went back through her LJ blog and confirmed that she had indeed talked about the DC 'Fest, and linked to the Watch in her post. Wow... Well. You're welcome, Linna.

I found the original note from that other site!

An added note Dennis. Check out the following website. I just hope it works.

It has some interesting information on Donaldson.

My mother brought me here...so I picked "referred by a friend."

I think she found it by going to that website Sgt. Null posted. There was a link to the Watch on there. That was almost 11 years ago. I've been here for 10. :-)
For Myles--
When evening shadows and the stars appear
And there is no one to dry your tears
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love

For Mom--
Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
for you are the wind beneath my wings.

Fly...fly high against the sky...
Thank you, thank you, thank God for you
The wind beneath my wings
