Is it someone known for some of his famous entries in one of the more active "creativity" subforums on the Watch?
...perhaps on a thread which could justify cricket participation..

Well, a million divided by 10 is gonna be close to 10^6/12...
So that's about 10,000 per month.
If we get 20 active watchers posting each month, that's 500 ppp (posts per person).

Welll... that's about 17 pppd (posts per person per day).

I.. uhh.. guess I could hire a babysitter if you really want me to make my 17 ppd, sorus... iunno.
OTOH, maybe I won't do that.

Or we can get more active watchers.
Or hire monkeys with typewriters.

This just in: I had my kid check, and 17*30 = 510

That's a million total. We currently have 952889, so the remaining 47111 would be about 4K per month.

I'm somewhat realistic.

It's good to have goals!

Ooooh...what if we had a contest for the Watcher who posted the one millionth post? And what if the grand prize was...oh, I dunno...the White Gold Ring?

Of course, there would have to be prizes other than the grand prize, so people wouldn't just hang back 'til we were at 999,990 or something.

Haha, if you set it up, I'll supply the prizes.

But it should be the person who posted the most in reaching 1 million, not just the millionth. (Not to mention it might be hard to pin it down if lots of people are posting.)

Everybody who enters puts down their post count at start, then the one who posted the most at end gets it.

Frosty, I think Jay said something about it, but can't remember. Anyway, he's the only one who can answer. You can PM him y'know.

I can see Sarge and Av in a competition. Not sure anyone else could keep up. Consider that a challenge, if you like.

Actually Sarge has been rather quiet this month. Perhaps that's the crux of our problem. SARGE! Mallory's needs you!

Like I said, we could do several prizes (so that Av and Sarge don't walk away with everything):

* Poster with most posts between now and 1 million
* Poster with most improved posting rate between now and 1 million
* Poster that puts us over the top (to be decided some way that's not too difficult for the admins)

Any others? And what shall the prizes be?

I will suggest there should be a prize for getting people to come sign up on the Watch and make thoughtful posts.

RL acquaintances are worth 4 points,
Online friends are worth 2 points,
And online acquaintances who you just got to click on a link are worth 1 points.

But... multiply by 5 if the person has already read at least 1 full book of the Chrons!!!

If you've invited people in the past and they make more than a hundred posts this year.
(This gives Batty and Magickmaker automatic points for promoting the Watch to me!)

Meh...don't get me wrong, we've had some fantastic referrals. But for me the beauty of the place is self-selection. People only find us if they enjoy the Chrons enough to want to talk about them.

Heyheyhey, not just the Chrons. Some of us came here for Gap chat.

But I know what you mean. My only viable recruits would probably be my guild, and there are a lot of Robert Jordan fans there. They're great people, honestly. Everyone has some flaws.

Actually I have never read Robert Jordan and try to avoid making disparaging remarks about authors I haven't tried. I imagine him as being somewhat like Terry Goodkind, who I have read and am very comfortable making disparaging remarks about, but the comparison may be wrong and unfair.

What were we talking about again?

Oh, nononononononono!

Robert Jordan is by no means the best fantasy writer... but compare him to Terry Goodkind! Heresy! Jordan, even if he overwrote by quite a bit, has always had a plan and direction for his work... and apparently he was quite the gentleman as well.

Goodkind can only regurgitate the plagiarized Rand and deny that he writes fantasy because he has a false sense of accomplishment.

I would actually compare Jordan more to the other Terry.... Terry Brooks. They have similar writing styles, the main difference being that Jordan over writes even if he knows where he is going and Brooks does not necessarily know where Shanara is going from here.

Amusement, really! I, for one, do not tend to be a reason for amusement as much as the one amused by others' suffering - and, of course, if you do wish to be amused in my presence, you should much rather opt for something like what my Ravers do - an evil, sadistic smile and laughter that makes mountains shake!

No-no, that's the old ritual, when I felt sleepy for millenia, and you know one can't sleep with all those candles around and chalk for foulgrams screeching on the floor - now I have a wondeful new foe to devastate, so no millenia-long sleep wanted here, merely distracted.
