TRAIN!!! OMG, Alynna, we should seriously think about taking the train. The girls and I took Amtrak to Oregon a few years back and it was *so* much fun. I've been looking for an excuse to do it again ever since. If you get a sleeper car, your meals are included in the price, plus you get your own little space to hang out for when you get sick of, y'know, people. It would probably be 3 nights on the train, one-way, but if you book early enough it's not any more expensive than airfare-plus-hotel-plus-meals.

Of course, booking early would require picking a date. (Ahem.)

Does Amtrak go to San Francisco, or only to LA? Hmm, must research this.... (www.amtrak.com)

It is most emphatically not the "air" part of commercial airline travel that bothers me. I have issues with the crazy rules and the "You're a terrorist" attitude. Also, major control issues. I hate being or going someplace and not having control of when or where I stop and which direction I travel, and I hate not having a car when I get there.

OTOH, I'm enough of a European throwback that I've always wanted to do an overnight train trip.

aliantha's right, give us a date so we can start planning! ;)

Same. When I come to the Melbourne Elohimfest, I'll travel by train.

Now I am all jealous cuz I already live in SF.....I wanna go on a train ride....

Heatherly just left for Oregon for the holidays and Julie will be leaving in the next couple days so we won't be together again until probably after New Years. I promise to get them to sit down and commit to a date then. So we will at least have a definitive one for the FBH finale party and I will leave the planning of Elohimfest up to the masses and the decision of whether or not to combine them...

You should come to the Australian meeting. You'd be the guest of honour.

I even have friends to stay with in Sydney. Adam lives there and now Ted is over there doing his post doc at UNSW. Both were physicist guest experts.

I think Elfgirl knows when it is on - I think March. And Sydney is quite close. No more than a 2hr flight.

I am definitely out then, I can't travel during March. Bummer. But hey, we could always have another if I make it out next year....

April 16-21st 2007 is when Elfy is in Melbourne so unless those plans go pear shaped we'll be having a get together then. Everyone is invited (come on all you international guests...you've been looking for an excuse to come to Oz!!!). I'll be there with bells on, and Marvin lives in Melbourne. Trapper is only a 40 minute flight away. Lore says he's coming etc etc. Once we've got a definite "go for launch" from Elfy then I can give advice to anyone who wants to find somewhere cheap to stay in (or out) of the city.

The more the merrier...

Sorry for thread hijack so to get back on track:
As for the US "when to do it" etc discussion. I'll stay out of it (as I'm only 90% sure I'll come over). I'll wait until you guys work out something solid and go from there.

What Seareach said! (that's when us West Ozzie singers are trekking to the East Saaahd to blow y'all away with our musical prowess for teh "Dream of Gerontius" by Elgar) I'm pretty sure it's set in concrete, but I'll give you more details early next year when we start rehearsals for it.

I think Sydder-Melbs is only a 1hour flight, if I recall from my one time doing it years ago...

Yeah Jenn! You should come!! EVERYONE should! I know all the best places to shop in Melbourne!! EVERYONE should!

I have leave in April, so I am definitely coming. My original plan to go to the FBH party in April was scrapped when the party was delayed.

I just saw this thread and I haven't even read it entirely yet.

Is it on for Albuquerque? I AM SOOOO VERY THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have the vacation time!!!! WOOHOOOO!!

Um, ok, I think it moved to SF. COOL!!!!! I am so there.

BTW, what is FBH or FHB?

Cameraman Jen - what is the closest/best train station?

A couple of people have mentioned taking the train. I would too. It is pretty reasonable.
The King has one more move.

There's an amtrak station at Embarcadero/Ferry building in San Francisco.

FBH is Fantasy Bedtime Hour. Click the link in my signature to find out more....

Amtrack has a station in Oakland. from there you can take Bay Area Rapid Transit (also known hereabouts as BART) train to The City (meaning San Francisco)

nothing has been carved in granite on the Elohimfest being here in San Francisco.
nothing has been carved in granite as far as even DATES for Elohimfest go.

we need a consensus on which location is preferable to the MOST number of Watchers as far as the Elohimfest.
we can combine in June with Fantasy Bedtime Hour Wrap Party because SRD is definitely attending that...OR

we could schedule a different date other than in the month of June in Albuquerque where SRD lives and we may be able to get him to attend THAT since he lives there. Danlo lives there too. other authors may be available as well to attend Elohimfest (according to danlo)

caam, google Fantasy Bedtime Hour. its a show (the one cameraman jenn is cameraman FOR) filmed in San Francisco, a parody of Lord Foul's Bane. Donaldson has been in a couple of episodes, as has Watchers Jwaneeta and Romeo. I helped film the final SRD episode and so have worked on it a teeny bit myself. (i live in SF and conned jenn into finding something for me to do)

Lucimay, they bus the Amtrak passengers there from the Oakland station as part of the fare. So if you purchase a ticket to SF as opposed to Oakland the last leg is on a bus. Expert Ted used to take the Amtrak down from Eugene when we were dating and I would pick him up from the depot at the Ferry building.
