The sorting is alphabetical, based on charactors that play throughout the books I would say Lavendar Brown. She's in their year although it may be one of those never again mentioned students that JKR likes to throw at us during sortings. Anyway, Seamus Finnegan can't be right.

Half Blood Prince, when Tonks sends her Patronus on to the castle to let them know that Harry is safe. I am not 100 percent sure about that though so I await confirmation.

Good guess Jenn...but its actually Goblet of Fire. After Barty Crouch is found dead, we see DD send a silver bird thing (presumably a phoenix patronus) over Hagrid's hut, soon Sirius relocates to the cave outside Hogsmeade...I'm pretty damn sure that was DD using his patronus to communicate with Sirius.
