Dorian wrote:Oh yes. He is.

The guy, who was around back from the late 20's onwards, burnt his hand in a fire and could only use two of his fingers on his fret hand. he retaught himself how to play guitar and from there went on to write some of the most amazing gypsy jazz ever.

In fact, he IS gypsy jazz.

Heres a video, bear in mind that most of it, apart from the head, is pure improvisation. watch how fast some of his runs are, with only two fingers! His violinist, Stephan Grippeli, is a legend in his own right. Love it. This isnt his fastest or most technically demanding song, just one of his tasty ones

Oh really? Any particular era?

I was studying contemporary music, so pretty much late 1800's up to now, and all of last year was from the 60s onwards.

Now I have started a degree in jazz, should be interesting

Well, Bach=God, imho. My final project was on his unaccompanied violin music. But string quartets are my favorite ensemble. Beethoven and Bartok are the best for that. I did a paper on one of Beethoven's quartets, and a paper in grad school on Bartok's 6. And hell, each is Bach's equal in their own way. From your era, there's also Stravinsky and Debussy, and some others here and there. I don't know jazz too well, but I have several cds. Bill Evans Trio, Shelley Manne (sp?), Ben Webster, Gene Harris...

Oh, I forgot I have a couple John Coltrane, even though I haven't listened to them enough to have any idea what's going on. Still, shouldn't Ascension be the official album of Pantheon? :D

Syl is right - if you want to discuss music, bring the discussion to Vespers, please ;)

Good stuff...one of my first cassettes as a child was of Bach and Sons pieces for the harpsichord... I still love it.

...you would have reason to talk Music, should The Void's followers decide the mathematics of the celestial harmonies or the Music of the Spheres warrant taking on Music as a domain...

*of course, none of the rest of us would have reason to answer you though*

;)

...sorry, been typing up Hyperception's notes on Johannes Kepler again...

I was listening to this one this morning on the way to work, and came over all Pantheony!
Web source for the latest music: onlylyrics.com
I heard her in the valley,
I heard her in the dead of night.
The warning of a white hare
Her eyes burning bright.

Be careful you don`t catch her
Or give her right of way.
For she will look upon you,
And steal your soul away

For the white hare is calling,
She's dancing in the night.
She'll be out `til the morning
With her eyes burning bright.
The white hare is calling you.

Out upon the heather
A shadow came onto me.
Her hair was hanging over,
Her face I could not see.

She ran behind the rocks,
I heard the hounds cry,
The image of a woman
Her head she held up high.

For the white hare is calling,
She’s dancing in the night.
She'll be out `til the morning
With her eyes burning bright.
The white hare is calling you.

If you go hunting,
Calling out your prey,
If you see a fair maid,
Her hair in ashen grey,

Be careful you don`t catch her,
Or give her right of way,
For she will look upon you,
And steal your soul away

For the white hare is calling,
She's dancing in the night.
She'll be out `til the morning,
With her eyes burning bright.
The white hare is calling you.

You can her her calling every night

You can her her calling every night
You can her her calling……

oops triple post.

This one's for o-gon-cho, dodgy song but apt title (and iirc tiamat was a babylonian dragon goddess!)

^ took me awhile, Brid, but that's the first time I watched that one. Looks like they were having a blast!!

Anyway...trolling youtube in the wee hours of the morning, 2:30 am on my clock, I came across this one. With the transference of cho's followers to the islands, while not 100% accurate, since it invokes a male, I think this one by Jon and Vangelis sums up the current state of affairs for cho's people nicely. Let's just replace all reference of a He to She, shall we? :D

He is Sailing
Jon and Vangelis

Out of the mist into tropical splendour
With garlands of flowers
In Majestical fusion we see tonight

On to this sacred reunion of pleasure
They row as a rhythm, ten thousands of millions
They touch the Light

King is sailing they say
King is sailing we hear
King is sailing they say
King is sailing this day of days of days
Cocasaya Tay Toca

(Printed lyrics show the following which is left out entirely in recording)
[ Drums beating faster thru' harder excitement
The wings bring the Angels
They singing of Truth that this day has come

Older than oldest religions have promised
A promise is kept on this Golden Reflection
His Kingdom Come

King is coming they sing
King is coming they know
King is coming we sing
King is coming we know
Kotao Kotao Kotao

All the souls he to touch
All the souls he to touch
All the souls he to touch
All the millions of souls he to touch, he to touch
Cocasaya Kotao Kotao]

Heaven set sail in His ship full of Light
He trancends all our love
To caress all our fears
In a moment Divine

Weakest and Strongest will dance in delight
All illuminous our Saviour they bringing him forth
We will sing to the Night

Our true Kingdom come
Our true Kingdom come
Our true Kingdom come
Our true Kingdom come
Higher, Than Higher, Than Higher, Than Higher, Than Higher

Ahhs...

I hope I can find a youtube of this sometime soon (it really is a 'you had to be there'!), but in the meantime, here's a poem....

For Montressor
No more eiderdowns for me,
no extra sheets or electric socks –
there’s a new accoutrement in my blanket-box:
I’ve got a great god Quetzalcoatl green hot-water bottle cover –
a present from my aunt and uncle from their trip to Central America –
Uncle Barry Auntie Erica:
both explorers, that’s how they met –
they both simultaneously discovered the source of the River Ganges.
Half an hour either way they’d’ve missed each other,
wouldn’t have met.
Life’s funny like that.
Anyway, they said “Rachel, we’ve got you
a great god Quetzalcoatl green hot-water bottle cover;
we hope you like it –
it was either that or a pillowcase shaped like the god of spring
with a skull for a face and his liver on the outside,
but they didn’t do them in lavender and we know you like lavender.
But I like my great god Quetzalcoatl green hot-water bottle cover:
one half’s feathery, the other half’s scaly,
because of the dual nature of the deity –
part-bird, part-snake, part-snake, part-bird.
The feathery half keeps me awake, tickles my middle makes me laugh;
the scaly half gives me nightmares about lizards
and in that respect it’s a lot like life –
partly nice, partly nasty. It’s a metaphor.
