If there is a worst sequels thread I'll add Army of Darkness. It's one of the most painful movies for me to watch - boring and unfunny.

I know this film has a big (and fierce?) cult following, but I agree with you, Lore. I went to the film on a whim way back when it came out. I came out of it feeling indifferent to it. I would have said "MEH!" had that expression been around back then.

Thanks, Matrixman. It reminds me of Monty Python and the Holy Fail . . .I mean Grail. The only thing driving both movies is fanboyism.

I'll add my disapproval to this movie (we got to stick together!). It was the first of the Evil Dead series that I saw on recommendation by a friend that I would enjoy it because it was funny. I chuckled once, but the rest was just tedious. Because of that, I didn't give the other movies a try until a few months ago when I saw Evil Dead II, which, IMO, is infinitely more entertaining than Army of Darkness.

Loremaster: Can't say I agree with you on Monty Python and the Holy Grail, but your play on words gave me a good laugh. I will say this, though, I can only enjoy this movie in the company of others. It's not funny if I watch it alone.

A lot of good ones on the list. I still say Temple of Doom is tied with Highlander 2 for worst sequel in history. Glad they didn't list that one, too!

??? They did. They had it further up than Last Crusade. Growing up, I really like ToD...but I watched it a year ago, and wow is it's overall style and delivery, err, juvenile?

Sorry, I wasn't too clear. I meant I was glad they didn't list Highlander 2. Bad enough ToD was there.

I've looked at many lists on the net...and none are good! (hehe) but, really, who wants a list they agree with, where'd the fun be!

Haven't seen: Evil Deads, Road Warrior, Drunken Master 2, couldn't sit through any of the Leone trilogy (smirks at all the dropped jaws) and never seen the fourth film.

Does Letters from Iwo Jima count? If it does, it would take my #4 spot.

Holy Fail...hahaha...harsh, but funny! Years ago I might have eagerly jumped to the movie's defense. But...it's been years since I last watched it. Some scenes still tickle me when I think about them, but haven't felt the urge to buy the movie.

That's true. Of course, it's always nice to see a favorite film appear any list (except if it winds up on someone's "worst films" list). I haven't seen a great number of sequels, but these are top favorites:

1. Terminator 2 - watched this for the umpteenth time last week, and it still wowed me from start to finish
2. The Empire Strikes Back - reminds me how truly awe-inspiring the SW universe was at one time
3. 2010 - intelligent sequel that holds its own against the implacable original
4. Wrath of Khan - MONTALBAN!
5. Blair Witch 2 (I know I'll be laughed out of the room for this one, but I maintain it's a clever take on the original's premise)

Blair Witch 2 was a decent film.

Haven't seen 2010...want to. Hmmm.

17. Die Hard 3

nono... really?...

well, for me, there is no better action movie than Die Hard (1). It set the standard for all else that came after...

Just to add one more... "The Four Musketeers" was slightly better than "The Three Musketeers" (the Richard Lester versions! -- far superior to any other versions --- ever! Including the new 3D version that is going to be made.. ugh...)

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Die Hard With a Vengeance was the best action movie of the '90s. Great sequel, and a damn good stand-alone story as well.

Yeah, 2010 is a real gem of a film. Very different in tone and feel from its predecessor, but very, very good on its own.

While Die Hard hasn't aged well...it is THE action film of all time.

Don't listen to him, MM! Holy Grail is one of the great comedies of all time!! Fantastic movie!!

Maybe they need to make a sequel to Holy Grail to revive interest in it. (Heh)

I can totally understand anyone who doesn't like Holy Grail...it's silly slapstick...the first time I saw it I was drunk at 5 in the morning - laughed my assoff!!! But I'm into slapstick and quick wit like Men in Tights and Dumb and Dumber, too.
