We had the best conversation with SRD today! Romeo, Aliantha, Orlion and I sat at a table with SRD in a very quiet section of the convention center. We asked questions and he gave very frank answers. We'll post what we can remember about it later!

Since all the questions we asked SRD had to do with AATE, I've started a thread in the AATE forum.

One of the things they found out was the clarification of something that is 100% ambiguous in the text - I am glad they told me!
Missed Romeo - he had to leave early for an emergency (and I hope everything is OK - sounded very serious

) and dlb - my cell phone had died the final death unbeknownst to myself until we were nearly in Columbus, so no one could reach me all day so he had left and I missed him by literally five minutes.
But we hung out with Aliantha and Orlion, and had a quiet good time. I got to see all sorts of famous authors at a distance in the lobby (Donaldson, McKillip, Erikson, etc.) but I did not interact with them (I feel like they should be left alone in their private time). In fact I bulldozed right by Donaldson this morning when he was eating his breakfast with a companion while I was on my way to breakfast with Aliantha and my hub. Did not even realize it until Aliantha pointed it out. Needed my morning tea, what can I say?
Maybe if they have another of things in the Midwest I will ask for the time off from work and actually be able to attend the thing. I was too cheap to pay the money to get one afternoon and evening of a four day event.

So we just hung out in the lobby, went out to dinner and breakfast, etc. Always good to talk Donaldson with fellow fans, even if I did not particularly care for his latest book.
Glad I went.

Ah! I'm so sorry I missed you, and that you missed SRD! My mother had some health problems that put her in the hospital, so I bolted at 2:30 am on Saturday. She's doing much better, though.
SRD is hanging out in Columbus for another week, though. There's an appearance listed on the official site for the 6th - I think at Ohio State University.

So glad to hear your mother is doing better! I was worried!
As someone who went to the University of Michigan, I do not do Ohio State.
But maybe other Midwesterners could check it out.

duchess of malfi wrote:And Fist - you do know that Aliantha met both Malazan guys, right?

I did.

*And* I got a free copy of "Night of Knives" (and about a bazillion other books -- I'm set for dead-tree reading material for at least a couple of weeks now

).

It's actually in Wooster, which is kinda close to Kent State... any way, you pass by it on the way to see Iron Maiden
It's at Fischer's Auditorium, which is owned by Ohio State, so I imagine it's a branch.

Made it home yesterday about 5pm. I had a good visit with my brother and his family. He has a new granddaughter that is about 15 months old. I only saw her once when she was still quite small, so I had a great time sitting on the floor playing with her.
I had a great time this past week with Aliantha, Orlion and Romeo. I'm still pumped, thinking about the great conversation we had with SRD.
Now, on to planning E'fest 2011!

The cell phone store got my phone up and working on Monday afternoon. I had quite a lot of texts stacked up ...and about half of them were from Fist!
I know the poor fellow wanted to come to Columbus - poor guy must have texted me over the weekend, not knowing my phone was down and I was not getting the messages - probably wondering why I was not answering...
