Let's just differentiate here...the 3rd series appears to end just about at the end of part 1 of book 3. So I assume series 4 will be part 2 of book 3, and series 5 will actually be book 4.

it is true that book three is split for two seasons. im not sure about season 5 yet.. I feel like they are going to be adding components from both book five and four into season 5 so we don't miss all the dany and tyrion.
long live king stannis baratheon!

The last I heard was this... book 3 would be split into two seasons. Book 4 and 5 would be combined and split over two seasons (with some of it being blended into earlier seasons (like Theon's torture).
There is quite a bit they could cut from books 4/5 without sacrificing the story, so it sounds plausible.

The producers D.B.Weiss and Dan Benioff have said that they're adapting the whole series as of season three so no more strict book to series correlation, season 1 to book 1 and season 2 to book 2. IIRC the reason being that it screws up the actors' availability if they skipped those actors whose characters don't appear in book 4 but reappear in book 5. Reading this thread I thought that the general disdain for book 4 and Dorne storyline may have a lot to do with it. They may skip most of Dorne or postpone it to season 5. (Or late season 4). {Also no appearance by main characters in book 4 of course[I mean Jon,Dany and Tyrion]
It would deflect complaints that the story didn't go forward in book 4 much or book 5 either (not me though, I enjoyed the new characters in books 4 & 5, and believe they'll be significant to the over-arching storyline {but I could be wrong, doesn't mean I didn't enjoy reading books 4 & 5 as much as I did).

I just finished season 1. Very good. I thought the comments from the writers and producers were interesting. One said that the people of the various kingdoms/lands had pushed magic into the background of their lives over the years. That they led very ordinary lives and the 'magical' slowly seeps back into their worlds. You really saw that in the last episode of the season.
I am so tired of Sean Bean getting killed off of every show/movie.
I have until 4/21 to see season 2 and 3. Then HBO pulls it. So much tv watching makes me dizzy.

I still haven't watched it. I don't have HBO.
I will watch it eventually.

Ok I finished season 2. I'm exhausted!
I have two things to say.
1 - Catlyn Stark is an idiot.
2 -
And zombie snowmen???? I thought I was done with zombies with the end of this seasons walking dead.

Of course I haven't read the books and I've only made it through season 2 so maybe I don't get whole picture but Robb doesn't seem so bad to me.

In time my child, In time. It shows more in the books. Then again I'm a die hard Stannis fan and a hard core Daenerys hater. If I were you I'd just ignore me.

Since I haven't read the series I have the pleasure of guessing who did it. I know the jester guy was part of it but doubt it was his idea.
My guess is either Oberyn or the new queens grandmother. Of course it could have been Joeffry's grandfather. I don't know, I don't know

Great episode. The interaction between Tyrion and Joffrey was excellent.
Not a spoiler: Lorin, the books never explicitly tell you who did it. There's enough information to work it out, but it took me a reread.

I am about 65% complete with the books. The books are VERY good and I like the fact that they dont mind killing off main characters. I have yet to watch anything other than previews and one evening when I was traveling I watched a summary of the first few seasons on HBO.
However, I dont know that I will ever watch the series. Im not a prude but way too much porn in the series for my tastes.

I'm sure the books are way better than the series but having just come into some free time for the first time in my life, the hbo series came before the chance to read. I have to say, I am enjoying it, perhaps because I haven't read the books.
As far as the porn, I'm good with it, in fact I'm great with it. Not so good with the sadism, though.

Another great episode! Loved the exchange between Tywin and Oberyn, and any scene with Danerys is a good scene.
I couldn't care less about the Jon and Bran storylines.

Really good episode, for the most part.
I'm dubious about the Yara Greyjoy storyline. I'm not sure it was at all necessary, given that it accomplished nothing but the adulteration of Iron Islander culture. The Ironborn put absolutely no value on lordly titles, as Theon's chapters in the books make clear; and, knowing he had been unmanned, they would certainly not have risked men to try and save him when he cannot even continue the Greyjoy line.
Yara's opening speech rested on the idea that the men with her give a damn about him being their prince, which is entirely unlike the Ironborn we know.

GOT is back!
I enjoyed the season premier. Anytime Varys gets screentime, it's a good thing.
