Wonderful.
"Yes, a prayer, you don't mind if I join you, do you? I think you are going to need all the help that is available."
Opening a small wound on his hand, and letting some blood drain in a cup. "Now, which prayer, we must find one that is appropriate, shouldn't we?", he dips the ball of dirt and saliva into the cup, "I know just the one." Forcing open Lothar's mouth he intones solemnly "Eat this, for it is my body." and pushes the ball into his mouth.
Seeing Lothar about to spit it in his face he instinctively barks "SWALLOW" [Dominate 1], and is rewarded with a loud gulp.
Where did that come from old man? How did you, must have been from...he's still helping it seems even after being justily handled.
Don't get distracted. He raises the cup to the surprised Lothar's lips and says "Drink this, for it is my blood." A drink ensues, reinforced again if needed.
"See? We're all holy now." Turning to look at Pierre "My good fellow, would you be so kind as to pick a number between one and eight?"
[I've already discussed this with GK and he said the answer would be 8]
"I like your mind, he has wronged you, and is it not said, and eye for an eye? You may strike him 8 times. Do not kill him, nor harm him grievously. I will be watching. Worry not about the Lord and Lady, I will take full responsibility, but it seems they are not impressed with this wretch."
While this putting the boots to him medium style is going on, I find a plate or bowl, and begin tracing symbols into the sides in saliva and dirt.
Remember the words, this is where it gets risky. You do not want to mispronounce anything.
Listening further to see if Lothar is going to get a last minute reprieve from the angry nobles upstairs.

I listen to Lady Seska's story.
I watch Mr. Lady Seska's reaction. He's mad.
Now, watch his face, little one. Watch the anger and fear struggle in him. He knows his wife is safe, so the fear gets weaker. The anger gets stronger.
Why am I looking at him angry?
Some night, you might face a strong enemy. If you can make him angry, you can make him stupid. He'll make a mistake when he's angry. You need to learn how to know when your enemy is about to lose control, so you can act just then. So watch the Lord now. Learn what his face tells you. Learn what his hands tell you. Maybe you can use this later with other people.
Oh. But won't my enemy attack me, when he's all mad?
Maybe. But he'll attack you straight forward, without a plan. And if you know he's going to attack you, you can be ready to avoid it. But only if you know when it will happen. So learn the signs. Learn to predict.
This sounds very compl... very hard. But I'll try.
Yes Lady.

"Most of the remaining night is a haze where I can remember only bits and pieces. Those I would mostly like to forget..."
"At some point the castle itself shook. It did again. One of his men reported that they wore the colors of a Hardestadt at which Giovanni cursed loudly. One of his enemies had come calling."
"They bickered amongst themselves as to the best course of action, but settled on using us as decoys. They performed some bizarre ritual which further clouded our minds but granted us strength and ferocity. Then they fled into a tunnel and sealed it behind them."
"So, unknowingly, dazed, we fought alongside the men Giovanni left behind. Some of us perished that night. Some seemed to have gotten away, such as the lady brought to us by the worm. A handful of us were captured by this Hardestadt and put in chains... then treated with a level of hospitality I would not reserve for wandering missionaries."

Sensing no clemency forthcoming...
"Pierre, my good fellow, once you finish with him, please close the door, and stay inside. Watch carefully, I'm going to ask you later about what you see. Fresh eyes always work well for fresh information."
DO NOT screw this up old man.
Taduz begins chanting, parts in Latin, parts in Rom, low and steady, speeding in tempo, slowing, what sounds like a beckoning in the tones. Not begging, asking. After a time, there are pauses in the chanting, followed by a reply. He sometimes looks to Lothar and returns his attention to what's before him, unseen. One word is repeated, Voragg.

The Crypts
The family crypts for the Karantanija estate is old and well tended. In this part of the world, when the winters come, two things happen. The ground freezes solid, and people die. Unable to put those bodies into the ground for proper Christian burials, or to return them to gaia, or whatever your reason, meant that the bodies of the dead were put into the crypts until the ground had thawed enough to be dug.
It's a small stone building, with no windows and fine carvings of scenes that might get a Count excommunicated, if the wrong knight were to see them. The Crypt had the place of honor before the family cemetery, as though the occupants were visiting family staying in the best bedrooms.
The corpse of Marianna lies upon the table, loosely wrapped in a white shroud. Unlike the apostate's robes she wore when she was in the service of nuns, she now wore a boy's suit of armor. A boy's helmet rode her head well, and if she were alive would likely have even avoided falling into her eyes whenever she moved. Her hands are crossed on her chest, and a sword is held between those hands, the naked blade held in place by the shroud around her.
And then, her eyes open. Her limbs flutter with a mockery of the life this pretty young girl had known, and then the monster sits up. She pulls the shroud off, and untangles her legs from it, so she can climb off the crypt table and stand. Though she is moving, and none of her body is rotting or falling off, she appears to be nothing more than a corpse that is nonetheless standing and moving. Her skin is more than just pallid, it is the greyish blue of a long-dead but well preserved corpse. Her eyes are dry and dull, though they seem to turn this way and that, and they can perceive as well as they ever had. Her lips are darkened towards black, as is her tongue.
The doors from the Crypt to the outside are closed, but not locked. Nobody would risk upsetting someone's ghost before a body were given the rites and buried. In Tótkomlós, there are no grave robbers.
In the distance, Marianna can sense that her creature is afraid. More afraid. And... there is the taste of pain.
The Dungeon
Pierre grins nervously, then grins wickedly. Using the leg that had previously limped, he kicks Lothar in the groin again. "I am still owed several more, goodman." he says to Lothar. "I will let you think on that, and on what I have given you so far. Every kick given with the leg my new masters have restored to me. Think on that, too. I am your enemy because you made me so. I could have been your friend, instead. But, this is your doing Lothar. I hope it tastes as good as you deserve."
For his part, Lothar is too busy sobbing in pain to comment much, and it's questionable that he even heard Pierre. But in a moment, he raises his eyes to Pierre and is defiant. Pierre lands his third kick, and his smile is entirely feral.
Taduz can feel the spirits in the cell starting to respond to his chanting. The invitation isn't for them, but they are listening now. They feel the strength of the request, and they feel so far that all the forms are being followed.
Taduz also feels Marianna's rising.
The Parlor
Branimir takes another long pull from his tankard, gripping the solid wood very tightly. "Who was this Hardestadt? Another German invader?"
Sabine begins to notice a taste to the air in the room. Soulsight reveals that there are spirits passing through the room and then going below. There is a summoning.

She lives, that, nevermind, you have an audience old man, you had best put on a performance for their troubles of coming.
Continue the chanting, beckoning, and slowly lets blood from two cuts on the palms of his hands drip onto the platter. [One blood point] YES YES FEED IT YES , continue chanting, motioning towards the platter, beseeching Voragg to consume the blood.
Move to Lothar, force him to drink from my hand [One blood point].
He's going to need this I think, Voragg will not be easily accomodated.
Let a thin trail lead back to the platter, continue the ritual, motioning towards Lothar while still invoking.

"Hardestadt fancied himself as nobility of these monsters. With him were six advisors. They starved us. Taunted us. Accused us of being spies for the ones who ensorcelled us. They were not gentle with their words or actions. On the third night they finally relented and considered our pleas of innocence."
She takes another drink and holds her mug out to indicate it was in need of a refill.
"They explained some of the magick which had bewitched us, for it was not something one is easily, if ever, rid of. Not out of any generosity, but so that we might not immediately succumb to worse fates."
"As I say, they considered our words, but only one amongst them believed us. She convinced them to let us go, to consider us lesser peers, if we returned to the ones responsible for our states. Pretend to have escaped his dungeons, and be his spy to counter their plans."
"And if we had other thoughts, he promised to kill everyone we hold dear, then hunt us down and end our existences as well. Considering he knew exactly whom I was, whom you were, whom our children were, and from everything I had seen to then, I believed he would..."
Watch him, now. The fear will start to win, since he knows his family to be in danger now. In a vampire, this might lead to Rötschrek. But in a human, especially a male, it usually leads to anger. But a more considered anger. Desperate acts, fueled by fear, but often with a very subtle end.
But Hardstab is a snowball.
Branimir doesn't know that. When he does, relief will win out. Until he hears of Giovanni's ascension. Then the fear and anger will be back. Just watch, child.
Where are all the tiny faerie going?
Someone is performing a summoning. Pay it no mind.

The Crypts
[You can't normally sense direction to your ghoul. Then again, you can't normally sense his emotional state or pain, either. So... in this case, with this ghoul, you can. You're welcome.]
Marianna knows that she's in some kind of crypt, and that her servant's pain is coming to her from off that way. Another stab of ghost pain comes to her, as Lothar receives another foot to the testicles.
The Dungeon
Spirits gather in the room, remaining a respectful distance from the platter. Then, another enters the room. This is no minor sprite, but a dark shadow in the room. Pierre shivers, and actually backs away from that side of the room, though he cannot see what is there. Lothar's sobs slow, and his awareness shifts from his pain to the sudden sense of danger in the room.
Voragg has heard your calling. Voragg accepts your hospitality for the length of this conversation. While your essence is mixed with his, Voragg pledges peace.
What would you say to Voragg, corpse puppet?
The Parlor
Branimir paled again. "We will summon all the lords. The Germans cannot invade Hungary and Transylvania at once, can they? My cousins will not accept that. They will fight with us, if we are attacked."

[Language=Latin] "I am named Taduz. I have knowledge of the ways, yours and others. It pleases me that you have answered, and the essence did not go to waste."Voragg wrote: Voragg has heard your calling. Voragg accepts your hospitality for the length of this conversation. While your essence is mixed with his, Voragg pledges peace.
What would you say to Voragg, corpse puppet?
Bowing to the Shadow, "I have something Voragg may want." Smiling, he continues, "I offer Voragg a way across the," he pauses a moment looking for the proper word in latin "veil of worlds. With minimal effort."
Move to the platter, and open the wrist again to add a blood point, and another point starting a trail to Lothar, "This one is durable."
Dripping the vitae up Lothar's body, to his mouth and into it, "I offer you him, his body, for your time here. I seek this for knowledge sake. That it may lead to greater efforts in the future." Why old man, do you know what he could.... oh dear me, we let the nun deal with it.
"This vessel will be Voragg's until it is no longer able to encompass the power." Holding up a finger he adds, "In return for access to this realm, I ask that Voragg seek not to harm myself, or the owner of this manor and their family. The child who exists as I do, and the above mentioned retainers."[/Language]
[Relevant roll for ritual Int + Occult (D6) and spend the one blood, specialties apply, 1 willpower for a success.]
You've fulfilled the forms, used the right words, and done everything thus far right. If he refuses for no good reason, he'll loose standing amongst the other spirits, if I have screwed up, this will end very very badly for myself, Pierre, and the worm here.
"The choice is yours, Voragg."
If he moves to take the offering and accepts the agreement, force Lothar to drink another blood point.
Now, THIS old man, we shall see why Mother said not to do this...
[This ritual takes time, we can draw it out over that time required, but this seems to have covered most of the bases.]

What kind of summoning? Can I watch?
I said to pay it no mind. It's not for you. It's for... oh, one of the bad ones. Who would summon one of those?
One of what?
I don't know which. But one of the pain fairy. Warriors of the Unseelie, they are.
But I'm Unseelie, right? Should we go?
You might be right. Come along, child.
I turn into smoke so I can follow the small fairies through the walls, to wherever the summoning is.

"Calm my dear. It is an idea worth considering, and it is good to be prepared and united against aggressors, however there is more to the tale. We should be safe for the moment."Goatkiller666 wrote:The Parlor

"Convinced that we had been truthful, Hardestadt's group quickly accepted us. He left one of his underlings to explain some of the intricacies of the ritual we had undergone and what it meant for us. It is something both of these groups had undergone. Slight variations between enactors create 'lineages', but on the whole are similar. There is a cultural aspect as a 'Sire' tends to pick a 'Childe' of compatible temperament, and so each lineage has bands together in a loose-knit group."
"The ritual results in aspects both good and bad, but also are a potential boon for chosen allies."
"You see, before Hardestadt attacked Giovanni's stronghold, while we were ensorcelled, Pierre had been brought before us. Giovanni orded him to attack me, as proof of his loyalty to his new master. He was aghast and refused. One of the guests, a Northman, then moved faster than the eye and beat him unmercifully. I am honestly surprised he survived it was that brutal. Bojan found him in the search for me and returned him to the inn."
"As we had been instructed to find our 'Sires' and try to get in their good graces, I first headed to the inn to find Bojan and Vida. Pierre was there, barely clinging to life. One of the things we had been taught was that our blood can heal grievous injuries. I granted him some in the hopes this was true for his display of character. Incredibly, it worked! It also made him stronger and more resilient. The Scholar was able to reset his feeble leg, and the process made it whole again as well."

The Crypts
Marianna feels her servant's fear grow much more intense. She is still in the crypt. [Go ahead and post something...]
The Dungeon
Taduz pours blood on the platter, then over to Lothar and into his mouth. He resumes the chanting and feels Voragg moving towards the prisoner.
Your offer was fair. No oaths of obedience upon Voragg. You speak the words, and offer blood of some power. Voragg accepts your bargain.
[The ritual takes an hour to cast, so we'll treat this as Voragg inspecting the host, and Taduz creating the magic that will allow Voragg inside. Taduz scored 2 successes total on his roll.]
Sabine, in mist-form, seeps through the ceiling stones and descends into the room. She sees the scene before her, with Lothar bound to the wall, Pierre standing watch from near the door, Taduz chanting, many spirits around the edges of the room watching, and one stronger spirit in the center of the room.
The Parlor
Branimir is just silent now, not wanting to offer another opinion when there is more of the story left to hear.

[The chanting continues]
His eyes closed as he chants still, a grin lets the puppy girl know she's been noticed.
Lothar, I hope you are still able to speak when this is done. Your experiences here will be most rewarding.
And Pierre, you had best pay attention. I will get everything you saw out of you. Anyway possible.

"From the inn, the group of us headed to a village near where we believed the 'Sires' to have retreated. During one day, while most of us slept in the carriage, bandits attacked. They did not expect Bojan or Pierre. Both capable in their own right, my blessing let them easily fend off the brigands. Before their demise, it was learned that worm running through our halls had sent them."
"Upon reaching the village, we had all of our retainers excepting Roderigo whom was our guide and posing as our captive, stay there. We continued to the Inn of the Sires."
"To shorten a long story, they were surprised by our survival. Despite a bit of an altercation and relieving of tensions through the removal of less popular members of their cabal, we were accepted as their 'Childer'. They possess little loyalty amongst themselves, and viewed the loss of some to mean greater rewards for the remainder."
"Over the course of the next week we learned from them. How to harness our blessings and avoid the pitfalls of our curses. They also told us of their plans."
"The Sire's Sire of Giovanni had an unusual idea--to consume the soul of their god. This is something which is supposedly possible between those whom have undergone the Ritual. Their god is not of any of these lineages, however they claim him as the ultimate source of the Ritual and with other rites this Grandsire had learned, it would be possible."
"Giovanni and his Sire, Augustus, felt the Grandsire was mad. They sought to stop him, and so they plotted to strike during these rites. So the night arrived and all of us journeyed to the monestary..."

"When we arrived there was a great gathering in the courtyard. Giovanni, his Sire Augustine, and one named Japheth were sitting behind an altar. There was an empty chair in the middle."
"To either side were monks. Our guest in the catacombs, Marianna, was amongst them. This was the first we had seen her since the inn and the...", Seska hesitates for a moment. "... the banquet."
"Giovanni and Japheth exchanged unpleasantries then the latter let the former sink his teeth into his neck. At this point Hardestadt and his minions arrived declaring Giovanni a traitor, however Japheth held up a hand to keep them at bay. He... wanted this."
"Our Sires spread out between them as a defense and Hardestadt's company advanced. Weapons were drawn and soon enough blood was spilled."
"Hardestadt died in the fighting. Lady Almanov revealed her treachery. Others disappeared in the commotion."
Another long draw from her cup.
"Hardestadt is no longer a threat. His people may be so, though I doubt they pose the same danger. So it would be wise to be vigilant. More so after learning what I have of these... beings. We have time to strengthen our defenses and be prepared."

Summary of Real-Time Session
Taduz finishes his ritual, and Voragg enters Lothar's body. Lothar is writhing in pain, and even Pierre's mortal eyes can see something moving around under Lothar's skin, as if a second skeleton were extending from his back down the backs of his arms and legs. He grows much taller, and his joints become knobby and distorted. Some of his fingers fuse together, or with his hand. His skin stretches tight, and then rips apart in places as the body beneath it grows too big.

His chains hold, but only barely. One can see that where they are bolted to the stone, the bolts are starting to wiggle loose.
Taduz asks Pierre what he saw, and Pierre is very scared. He leaves and returns to Seska in the parlor, visibly shaken. Taduz asks Sabine what she saw, and Sabine answers as a proper lady, with clear diction and coherent ideas. She describes the ritual as well performed, and with all proper courtesies.
Seska and Branimir are startled to hear what Taduz has gotten up to with Lothar, and Branimir is worried that this is another supernatural evil. Even worse, this is the allies.
Seska and Branimir enter the dungeon, while Pierre stands outside the door, not wanting to see Lothar's fate again. Branimir is beside himself, and ranting about the horrors happening in his own home. Taduz seems surprised to hear this, especially since he was nice enough to use someone that wasn't liked for his experiements, instead of one of Branimir's peasants. Taduz feels that this is the height of courtesy on his part.
Lothar also is quite upset, in addition to the pain. He resumes struggling again, hoping to get out of the chains and attack somebody. Sabine uses some power [Dementate] to immobilize Lothar for a time, while Branimir continues ranting.
Finally, he says "Kill it! Kill it with fire!", and Taduz obeys to the letter by <fwooshing> Lothar's sleeping body. [I'd been saying "Kill it with fire!" for the past week or so, and I'd kind of forgotten that Taduz could create fire, so this is mosty my bad for being thoughtless. But, it went with Branimir's nearly incoherent ranting, so I let it slide.] And once the fire died down, Branimir left the room, even more freaked out.
Voragg tells Taduz that that body was already bound to another's will, and he is unhappy to have been put into such a vessel. That Taduz so quickly released him is only for the best, and shows him to be an honorable person.
Here endeth the tale.
[So, Lothar is dead. Since Marianna's player wasn't present in the room, and we couldn't get her on the phone, we just figured the character wouldn't get there in time to save him. Maybe the door to the mausoleum was locked or something?]

[It was also glossed over that Seska was not happy with events. While she wanted Lothar locked up, she raised her voice about putting trolls into her dungeon and threatening the well-being of her family. She was also put off by forcing supernatural events upon her husband faster than planned.
The ruckus would be able to guide Marianna to the room.]
