Possibly so--the only thing he could not foresee would be people in the future not going along with the script he wrote. That video was definitely needed as a plot device for the Senator, though--without it, Cyclops' plan could never have been formed.

I have not seen any indication of a second season as of yet, not even a teaser.

The show's creator didn't want to do another season, it was a one-and-done self-contained story. Which is a good thing I'd say, shows are better when they get to go out on their own terms and not either stretched out for ratings or cut short by cancellation.
