well, the actor who can definitely "suffer" the best is Nicholas Cage, he positively suffers through all his roles, so at first look he would do a good TC, but I do not know; too much Italian, amybe
I still stand by Daniel Day-Lewis for TC and Ralph Fiennes for Mhoram

Amanibhavan - I can't believe you put Ralph Fiennes for Mhorham! I've always thought he would be perfect for that role! Great suggestion! :D

I've often imagined Jan-Michael Vincent as TC, and, 20 years ago, Jane Seymoure WAS Elena in my mind.

I study film production at university and know how to write scripts (I'm actually in the process of making a short cult film at the moment), and I was thinking of making a site dedicated to the idea of a TC Movie. After the success of Lord of The Rings there has been a league of fantasy movies in the works. Like Dragonlance (www.dragonlancemovie.com) and Narnia (www.walden.com/home.html). I personally thought that the Dungeons & Dragons movie was a flop, but yeah. Well the link to the Dragonlance site I provided is actually the unofficial site and the authors of it originally were writting up a script to give to the owners of the Dragonlance series (Wizards of The Coast), BUT later found out that a deal was made between Wizards of The Coast and a lady called Mary Kirchnoff who will be making the film.

WELL I'm thinking of creating a similar site like the dragonlancemovie.com one. I will make a film script from the first trilogy with the help of other TC fans. We could then make a dream list for actors and other fan based work (like creating songs for various scenes - soundtrack ideas) to basically create a stir in the film industry to either encourage our idea to be made into a film or someone else to make a film from the TC chronicles.

If I get enough people interested I'll purchase a domain either (www.thechroniclesmovie.com or www.thomascovenantmovie.com or any other suggestion?) and start writing the script for the first book.

Sounds like a good or foolish idea?

brilliant idea; I have no notion how to write a movie script but I will help where I can

six hours per book will perhaps be enough...:-)

Ok I'm going to start on the script today, and look into getting a domain name and server for a site (I think www.thomascovenantmovie.com sounds good, because "the chronicles" is a term also used to describe the first Dragonlance trilogy). As with all book-to-movie conversions I may have to leave a few parts out so the movie time will run at 2-3 hours (preferably 3 hours like LOTRs). I know this will be the hard part because we are loyal fans to this story and I'd hate to leave anything out of the TC books... but we can't have the movie dragging on for endless hours just so we can see every part lived by Covenant in The Land.

What I'll do for now is set up a temporary site like at Geocities or Angelfire where you can all read the progress of the script and give input etc until I can get a cool domain name. Well if you have any suggestions about what you'd like to see in the script, on the site or whatever just email me at johngreen@mail.com or leave the ideas here. :D

If only everyone else loved the books as much as us to be as devoted/extreme to watch a movie as long as that.

Personally I believe that it's not possible to film the Chronicles without losing the depth. Sure, you could show all the neat fantasty stuff, but that's not what they're about. How can you put the philosophical part of the books into a movie?
Not possible.

I have to agree with Jonas, I'm not sure the depth of the books could be captured. A lot of the important parts are internal - changes of perception, attitudes, mental monlogues...

But I will give as much help and encouragement as I can to anyone who tries to make a TC film, just to try and help them prove me wrong... :)

I MUST add my 2 cents here!

Haven't read the entirety of this thread ... but I have always associated TC with late aussie actor John Hargreaves (if you're not from here you'll probably not know him) ... he just plain looked the spitting image of my impression of Covenant.

Unfortunately Johnny H passed away a few years ago, so he's out of the running. But it was important that I let yers know how appropriate I would have considered him for the role.

Could be! I just uploaded a photo of Hargreaves in the album!

Hmm ... I wish I could get a better photo of him for yer ... that one doesn't look as much like TC (in my view), I should be able to find something tonight ...

But if you posted the picture, then you must have seen some of TC in Johnny Hargreaves!

I'll try to get a photo from "My First Wife", in which he sports a beard!
