What if it was just part of the elaborate disguise? Jeremiah drops the car after the truth is shown. This symbolises the end of this particular deceit. "Jeremiah" no longer needs the car.

I have no idea about the car. I do believe it will have some significance , though. I have also wondered if Jeremiah's silence wasn't caused in some way (or may be undone later) by the Elohim. They have pulled a similar trick before.
