8O Robbie Alomar and Carl Everett! 8O

What's going on up in Chi-town Mr. Giantfriend???

I actually have Big Hurt, Carlos Lee, Konerko (will he ever hit again?!?!?), and Buehrle on my fantasy squad. So far my strategy of loading up on White Sox has not worked...I'm dead last. Hopefully this trade will help them get going in the 2nd half!

They should have thrown Mo Vaughn in2 the mix 4 free! Alomar and Vaughn have done nothing but curse the Mets since they got there and messed up a pretty good darn Manager's resume...

Mo Vaughn...Carl Everett...ahhhh the BoSox memories!

Danlo,
Which manager are you referring to, Bobby Valentine or Art Howe?

Well, I was originally refering 2 Howe, but both is probably correct! :D

If you ever read sports related books I would highly recommend "Money Ball - The Art of Winning an Unfair Game". I can't remember the author but it's about Billy Beane and the Oakland A's and their ability to field consistent winners with one of the lower payrolls in baseball. It's intelligent and is certainly an eye opener.

Brinn: this is an excellent idea for a topic of its own! I'll have lots to say in a sports book thread. If you don't start one I will 8)

Great Idea! Go ahead Big D, you start it and I'll respond.

BTW did you read Money Ball? Any recommendations for great sports books? I'm looking for one to read as a change of pace.

Alomar is a great pickup, he really didn't like being traded to the Mets. With the Sox, he has his brother to help him out just as he did in Cleveland.

If Everett is the Everett from Texas and not Boston then it was a good trade.

It's great to see the Sox make a move with the intent, even if it's a lot of hot air and a bit of wishful thinking, of winning it all. They are only .500, not 20 games over, and if they were in either of the other 2 divisions in the AL they'd be having a fire sale now. But management can't be faulted for not trying. 8)

Big Hurt, Lee and Buehrle will be allright. Paulie, I'm afraid won't see a lot of starting time unless he starts to hit. Though he did save the game last night with a pinch hit HR. :)

I went to the game between the White Sox and Tampa Bay on Saturday and this question came up. Would you rather see a team that your team can easily beat, like Tampa Bay should have been on Saturday (the Sox lost), or would you rather see them play against a good team?

My friend and his brother argued that you should try to see, particularly with the kids that we took to the game, the bad teams since your team is more likely to win. I argued that it's better to go to a game when the Sox are playing the Yankees or Mariners, for example, since it means more to beat them than it does the crud teams. Also if your team loses to a crud team, it's just annoying.

Any thoughts about this?

Watch a game against a challenging team. I've seen the [Red ]Sox play teams from the Devil Rays up. It's more fun to watch a close game than a blow-out, that goes both ways!

The Sox are 1 1/2 games behind the Yanks after winning 2/3 against them! We actually can beat them this year! 8O :D

Theo Epstein is on Fire!!!!

Scott Williamson will be a great addition and will give them plenty of options for the pitching staff. We now have two legitimate closers! And look out for the Sox offense...It looks like were beginning to click! Say goodbye to the chants of "1918"...World Series here we come!!!

Well, I hate 2 report anything that would make Lord Mhoram or Brinn gloat even more... ...but even if u dislike the Red Sox u can't help but be in AWE 8O 8O of what Bill Mueller did last night!

Mueller became the first player in major league history to hit grand slams from both side of the plate! He even added a solo homer! For 9 RBIs in total!!! 8O 8O 8O

It was also the 12th time a player has hit 2 grand slams in 1 game...the last person 2 do it was another Sox-head: Nomar Garciapparra...in '99...

(go fish!)

Bet he can't do that again. Mueller must suddenly think he can hit or something!

Don't worry about the Chowds, the curse won't lift until 2018. Somewhere a single tear rolls down the face of Buckner.

Ohhh Boy...There you go. Just had to bring up Bill Buckner didn't you! :x

I'm just thinking that the Bill James theory of OBP and OPS appear to have some merit. Sabremetricians rejoice! The Sox have quite a potent offense this year and have the lead leader in OPS at Catcher (Varitek), 3rd Base (Mueller), SS (Nomaaah), and numbers 1 and 2 in the outfield with Manny and Trot. Pretty significant if you ask me. 8O

Got a good chuckle from this article:

Reds fans won't like it but the rest of you might.
