I just finished the neverending story (the first movie is only half of the book) so I was really excited when I found out there was a second movie to go with the second half of the book. Yeah, the movie sucked. I didn't even watched the whole thing... Different actors (bad ones at that) and a completely different plot... Grrrrr :X

I finished Excession by Iain M. Banks. It was a good read, even if it takes a while to get all his goofy ship names straight.

Dutchess, Forever War was allright, I liked Excession better though.

Damelon-ur Iain Banks got me thinking of another British Sci-Fi author named Ian MacDonald who wrote a very strange, organic book called The Broken Land (of course the title caught my eye right away, vis a vis: The Wounded Land)--his world was so organic I had 2 check my armpits 4 mushrooms everyday I was reading it--it is not ur normal Sci-Fi but I recommend it 2 every1!

I saw a reader review on The Broken Land at Amazon UK. It does sound like an interesting concept. I'll have to keep an eye out for it.

currently going through Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" series. wonderful stuff. i was wondering if anyone has read the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind...im thinking of reading it and wanted to know if anyone thought it was good or bad?

Dark Tower's good, just wish he'd hurry up and finish it.

Sword of Truth... eh, depends on what you mean by good. Entertaining, yes. It's good time filler. If you like Wheel of Time, chances are, you'll like Goodkind's stuff.

I've stayed away from Goodkind because of Jordan. I don't know if Goodkind's epics are of the same length as Jordans; but I'm stuck following the Wheel of Time story. I don't want to get involved in another open ended series of Tor's.

I've read some of Goodkind, the S&M and rape scenes are a turn off to me, but a lot of people seem to enjoy his books. Maybe I'm just a bit too sensitive or something.
I've read some of Jordan, too -- his books are frustrating to me because he seems to be in no hurry to come to any sort of conclusion to his series.

But again, a lot of people adore his writing. When he gets around to finishing his series, maybe then I will as well.

The two fantasy writers I've never tried but hope to someday soon are Garth Nix and Phillip Pullman. I keep hearing really good things about both...
I've never read anything by Banks, Damelon. Would you recommend him?
