Massawyrm Believes A Man Can Fly As He Soars With SUPERMAN RETURNS!!
... But Superman is without a doubt Superman. He’s so Superman it hurts. It’s like seeing him for the first time. The soul is 100% intact. Singer gets Superman right. Every aspect. There isn’t a single moment here that would make a single Superman fan wince. On the contrary, there are scenes that will bring tears to your eyes – not because they are emotionally manipulative moments at which you are supposed to cry, but because you are actually seeing the first truly amazing Superman rescue of your adult life. ...
(And this is from a comic book geek movie review website.)

Alas, I won't be watching it in 4 hours when it comes out here.

This weekend, though, for sure!

Well, I certainly liked the movie! The effects were amazing, as expected. The story was good, with one surprise that I'm surprised I hadn't heard anything about before. Only one scene of Lois taking more damage than a human could live through, much less remain conscious. (Perhaps my biggest problem with
King Kong.) Several good laughs. Several good nods to the original movie.
Can't wait for the next one!

Saw this tonight - Fist is right, the effects were amazing, but IMHO the story was very weak. Spacey looks like Luthor but plays him just like Hackman did, and that's just wrong. Routh makes a good Superman and Clark Kent, and he picked up well right where Chris Reeve left off. Bosworth, again IMHO, was a terrible Lois Lane. Nobody can ever get Lois Lane right. And, why oh why can't anybody find an actor with red hair to play Jimmy Olsen? OK, small point to bitch about, I know. I give the movie about 2.5 out of 5.

Give this Routh guy a chance,he was great IMHO,all in all the movie averaged out to a good experience, but there were some things(Luthor) that made me wince.I must admit that during one scene I teared up a little.

I also thought Routh did great. I'm nearly always sceptical of remakes, and the new actors in the big roles. Particularly the great ones, like Willie Wanka. But I usually see them, and am often pleasantly surprised.

I remember watching that episode and laughing my ass off, especially when he looks at Jimmy Olsen's crotch and says, "He's a Jew!".

Really enjoyed it. Thought it was better than Batman Begins and right up there with Singer's X-men movies. If you can get over the fact that Routh and Spacey were drawing tons of inspiration from Reeve and Hackman, then you could really see the excellence in their performances. Would love to see it in theaters again, as my theater had crappy sound and the lights weren't all the way down.
I could tell the plot/action/emotion was holding back, because they're prepared to really pour it on for sequels.
I could see some nice emotional depth developing; Superman could go beyond the "boy scout" image and have some actual flaws! The sequels could approach Spider-Man quality, but we'll see.

I don't think Beorn has ever seen any of the Reeve Superman movies. Do you think they're a prerequisite before seeing this one?

Menolly, I think it would be a good idea for Beorn to see the first 2 movies before seeing SR.
