That's cool, Vraith -- time is not an issue. We've got another few years before TLD is published. This will give us something to do in the meantime.

we will wait...Vraith wrote:Huh...peeps are actually interested? I'll see what I can do, though I hate to embarrass myself: I'm really no artist.sgt.null wrote:vraith - you must post the native american set of tarot and whatever you have for the land deck. please?
It'll take a while...all of it is actually pencil sketches, and I'm highly disorganized and I don't own a digi cam or scanner at the moment [well...I do have a scanner, just not a working one].
The Land one I've done nothing but thinking about "which char should be what?" starting with the major arcana...I actually played with it long ago, but now I want to take the LC's into account.
I guess I'll start gathering stuff, and start a thread about it when I've got something reasonable.
Like I said...it'll take a while.

I think it would just be fun to have a thread where we could speculate on who should be on which card, but I'd understand if you didn't want that to be part of your creative process.Vraith wrote:Huh...peeps are actually interested? No no, that's part of my point [i did say suggestions welcome...]bossk wrote: I think it would just be fun to have a thread where we could speculate on who should be on which card, but I'd understand if you didn't want that to be part of your creative process.
I'm gathering up my thoughts and reasons so far for a thread on it...after that, I expect a free for all of input/ideas.
I was actually thinking of a sort of "Card a week" format...[heh...although that's 78 weeks, a long time...maybe more like a "suit a month"]...but I'm not sure it needs to be anything so structured. We'll see where the mood takes me.

the hyperbole is a beauty...for we are then allowed to say a little more than the truth...and language is more efficient when it goes beyond reality than when it stops short of it.

Some dinner photos:
1) I appear to be handing SRD the invisible ball of light...

2) SRD being more animated than we've ever seen him before...

3) much applause...

4) Shocked re: something Borillar asked him?

5) Mrs Null, Null & Loremaster are highly engaged...

6) What's this? A special pen for the book signing?

This E fest was my first. One of the many things striking me odd was indeed SRD's animated presence . I had come to believe he was one who valued his privacy to the degree of being an introvert. So his animated being suggests to me a change ,,to , not only a writer,,but a lecturer as well. He seemed well prepared and with a common thought thru all that was discussed..with plenty of humor and wit along the way. There was a lot of mutual respect there.
If she withdrew from exaltation, she would be forced to think- And every thought led to fear and contradictions; to dilemmas for which she was unprepared.

Part of that could have been my conversation with Steve before the dinner in which I thoroughly riled him up by teasing him that I was going to ask a series of FBH style questions during the Q&A portion. Questions such as "Was Thomas Covenant wearing the same pair of underwear the whole time he was in the land?" I also think Danlo and Lady Tam helped a bunch since they have had so much interaction with him at past events that they helped put him at ease, plus of course Bob. Steve told me that he had been so busy and so had Bob that they hadn't seen very much of each other since the last WFC so he welcomed the excuse to see him a few times. Yes, there was a breakfast meeting with Bob, Lady Tam, Danlo, Steve, Grace and myself on Friday. AND, he was excited to finally meet Scott face to face. Also you can't discount in any way the fact that multiple attendees were repeats so familiar faces, several of which have had other interactions with him. Lucimay helped film during the filming of the final episodes, Damelon had dinner with him at an FBH dinner gathering to mention a few. So basically this was probably much less like a traditional reading/signing to him and more like a gathering of friends with some Q&A and signing on the side.
Now if I could just find a way to wear live bees as jewelry all the time.....

Hile Troy could have been somebody...specifically, he could have been the one who utterly destroyed all of the Land's defensive capabilities and assured Fouls complete triumph. Only because Mhoram made it possible for him to make a bargain with Caerroil Wildwood (the ramifications of which he entirely missed) was this debacle averted.
As SRD has said, Troy was created as an anti-Covenant, a character to illustrate to those readers chafing for a more conventional "sword and sorcery" hero that the result of charging ahead without questioning ones assumptions was the wrong path, and that Covenant's reluctance to accept and act might be a more considered path.
Or something like that. Needless to say, SRD expressed the concepts much more cogently...

but as i have argued with others (rigel specific) hile was never given a chance at success because he had to illustrate that TC was making the correct decision.
that Hile's act of trying was more correct than TC's not acting. even as it ended in failure.
i am more Troy than Thomas. I would buy into the Land being real and i would do all my all to defend it.
i would use whatever power i had or could take. white gold in one hand, krill in the other. orcrest on a chain around my waist.
but that is just me...

That special pen might have been for the *back* signing, not the *book* signing...
