What are you doing/did you do this weekend?
Moderator: Orlion
Today is my dad's birthday, so I'll be spending the evening at my parents house, probably eating too much and watching movies, as those are two of his favorite things to do. I'll be delivering the presents and the cheese cake. Cheese cake, mostly because I like it, and he doesn't seem to have a preference

Has anyone seen my keys?

I went to my old college town yesterday afternoon to hang out with some friends. The evening went fubar though when a couple of them screwed up and went to the wrong place for pizza. Since none of us had working phones, I forgot mine at home; we didn't see them again until it was time for me to leave.
Today is a day for lounging around until I go out to watch the game this afternoon.

I had a gig saturday, it was a benefit of some sort held at a golf course in Zephyrhills. This is February, right? Funny how it seemed like summer playing on a flatbed on a clear day that got up to 90 freaking degrees. I swear I'm getting too old for this. I wore my son's hoodie so I wouldn't get sunburnt and sucked it up. Our singer actually fainted at the end of the set; he grabbed for me as he fell, and almost pulled my pants down with him. If the event had been set up in the shade of some trees (there were plenty there to have done this), I think it would have been a much better gig; unfortunately, the last people who get consulted on these matters are the bands, so we ended up having the sun in our face all day. I was so blasted by the time I tore down, I couldn't even drive home. I stopped at the state park, which was on the way home, and let my kids play while I rested in the freaking SHADE on a bench for an hour, then we did the nature trail thing and I found out my 5 year old is afraid of bridges. All in all it was a fun day, but I think it's about time I quit playing in bands and stick to my church gig. I'm also having problems with all these gigs falling on weekends I have my kids. Six out of my last eight gigs have been on my kid days, and the seventh one I had to have them on a dress rehearsal, and it was in a place I never want to take my kids to; I only agreed to do it because it fell on a non-kid night. To make matters worse, I agreed to play at that place again (It's a bar) this coming weekend, only they resheduled it for the following weekend, when I have my kids again. I'm telling you, that, combined with the fact that only one of these nine gigs actually paid, makes me have serious doubts about sticking it out.

That sucks. I don't suppose you could switch weekends with their mother? Would she see reason? Or is it a Murphy's Law kind of thing, i.e., as soon as you swap weekends, the band's dates would switch weeks, too?

Honestly, I don't want to switch weekends, even if it weren't a big hassle. My kids are more important than this gig. If it were up to me, I'd have them every weekend. The fact is I agreed to doing a gig on the 9th, and they switched it to the 17th. So all I have to do is call the singer tonight and tell him I'm not doing this anymore. There's a little bit more involved here than I'm telling, like I already told them I couldn't commit to the direction they're heading in back in November. There's one guy in the band who's never had children, and he's difficult to deal with, but his wife's expecting their first kid next month, and the other guys keep telling me he'll mellow out, but I have serious doubts about that.

I will be staying at my parents' estate for two nights. I plan to use my telescope to view Mars, and maybe spend an hour exploring a particular constellation. As I haven't really used my CCD camera, I might give it a go.

I am getting ready to drive across the state to attend a planning meeting of the administrative team of the volunteer organization I work with. See you on Sunday!

Have a good trip, MsMary!
Working late tonight (OT -- yay!). Tomorrow, dinner with a friend to celebrate her birthday; we'll probably hang out earlier in the day, too. Sunday, study group and laundry. I live *such* an exciting life, I can't tell you.

I got out of work so early today that I didn't know what to do with myself. I was going stir-crazy so I went out to dinner and a movie with a friend. We saw the Golden Compass at the cheap theatre (oooh, and there was a trailer for Inkheart!). It was a very pretty movie, filled with all kinds of gears and a mixture of mechanical/magical inventions. I don't know exactly why, but I'm fascinated by that kind of thing. Maybe that's why I use so many metal findings/accessories in my paper art. *shrugs*
Anyway, I think I need to cram in seeing some friends and getting things done about the house this weekend, as I will have to work late next Friday and also work Saturday. Oh joy. . .

Here's another. Enjoy!

We just had a small family gathering of our folks with birthdays this month, I got stuck with a few more of the details than I planned, but it turned out well despite my direct involvement.
I got a new digital camera for my birthday, which I'm really psyched about, since it has twice the resolution and features of the one I had before, which, my daughter miraculously lost around Christmas. But best of all, after all the cake and pie was scarfed down, I got to play around out in the yard (it was beautiful today), with the kids. *see posted pic* A good weekend so far, now, I'm just looking forward to lazing around and catching up with everyone, maybe watch a movie or something.

Yes, Alligator Alley. There were no signs of fires, but it's a long, lonely drive (as I am sure you know.Menolly wrote:Are you taking Alligator Alley, Ms. Mary? Drive safe, there were wild fires last I heard.

I didn't realize that her husband works in Ft. Pierce - leaves Monday am and comes home Friday pm, so this the only time they have to be together. I am staying out of their way.

It was too cold to go out today, so I stayed in and watched Rocky Balboa and The Great Train Robbery, which starred Sean Connery. I was rather surprised how good the first was, though I'd heard it was pretty good. and the second was not bad either.
