I'm very grouchy today. :( Third day in a row one or both of my kids has been sick. I hate that so much. :-x I wish I could be sick in his (their) places. I'm sure when I get into work tonight, it'll be the third day in a row we'll be short staffed, too.

At least this is it for the week, and starting tomorrow I will have a four day weekend. We'll be heading down to Indiana to visit Ball State University and seeing a football game there, and hopefully (if the kids stop puking) eat at a fantastic Amish restaurant with something like 15 different flavors of fresh baked pies. I've heard about that place for years...and I know the kids will love the pie. (If they can keep it down).

here is a link to that restaurant in Indiana:

It turns out to be 29 kinds of pie. 8)

Too much to do, yet feeling inexplicably lazy. Don't wanna finish my overdue papers, dammit! So here I am instead. Don't think I will make it to work today. Boss will not be pleased, as I've already taken tomorrow off. Friends coming to town, have to get ready for them, but not enough hours in the day for it. Wish they'd tell me when they were coming. Still have to go to class tonight, and daren't show my face before I email the prof my paper. I already skipped last week. The sad part is, I could just have that paper to do, and I still wouldn't do it, but between work and other work and the horses I promised people I ride, at least I have an excuse. It appears I am selectively lazy. It's kinda filtered to prevent me doing school work.

My boss is gonna be mad. I think I'm gonna trade him today for tomorrow. Hopefully my friends won't show up until the evening.

Hang in there duchess. Sickness can't last forever, right? Ummm...wait. Don't answer that. ;)

I felt pretty good all day right up until I got home and my dog gave me a fat lip!
Every day, I get home, she says a huge hello and then waits for me to rough her up. So I do. But, she has this cute little trick that my wife (to be) taught her. She walks a few steps away as if something caught her interest, but is looking out of the corner of her eye at me. SHe stands still, and then....BAM! she turns and jumps at me. I think it's great, and she seems to like doing it to me.
Normally I am aware that it's coming. Today she caught me off guard, and smacked me in the lip with her paw before I could react.
No blood, thankfully, but it's a bit swollen. I'll live. :D

What's strange though, is that she only plays that game with my wife and I. Nobody else who has tried has been able to get her to do it.

Well, maybe things are looking up. My shift is full staffed, though we might still have midnight call ins.

here's the latest from Washington on the hurricanes:
HEY VA! HAVE YOU HEARD? October 13, 2005
The Veterans Health Administration has deployed more than 600 clinical
and support personnel to aid in the response and recovery efforts in the
aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. There are several continuing
missions with the largest being the staffing and operation of two Federal
Medical Shelters in VA buildings in Waco and Marlin, Texas. More than
300 evacuee patients and families are now sheltered there. VISN 17 staff
prepared buildings in the Marlin and Waco VA campuses to house these
evacuees. VA responded to this humanitarian mission as part of the
national disaster medical system since there was no alternative to care
for such a large number of patients. There are currently 155 people at
the Marlin shelter and 177 at Waco. VA expects to have more than 200
health care staff on the ground to accommodate the needs of expanding
patient and family population including mental health personnel.
So if and when I get deployed, its almost certain now that I would be going to Texas. I have heard of Waco -- but I have never even heard of a town or city called Marlin. :?

Geez poor Mr. Sunshine and Bigredbulldog! Get better quick guys! Lot's of sickness going around the schools--went to the Dr.s' for a check up and came away with a RMM (Rubela, Measles & Mumps) shot and a Flu shot. Dr. said all teachers should have these. HA!!! try telling that the the District! I'm in worn-out heaven from playing with the boys for 4 hours straight--diapers, meals, hugs--it just don't get no better! :D (and CSI actually held my attn.)

Well, Mr. Sunshine is fine. :) I just got home from the grocery store and he intercepted me at the door wanting an afterschool snack. I have a bunch of cheese stuffed chicken nuggets in the oven for him. He played soccer last night and is doing great. Apparently he had a more 24 hour bug sort of thing.

Poor Bigred is still puking today...has been for three days now. I got him some ranitidine tablets; I am hoping that those will help. He's been able to keep down juice and water, just not solids. So I got him a bunch of chicken noodle soup, too. I am hoping that he can keep that down, as sort of a step up to solid food. :(

We're still going to try to do the Ball State thing this weekend, though we might skip the restaurant with the 29 kinds of pies. We'll be out of here first thing in the morning.

Hope everyone has a mighty fine weekend!!! :D :D :D :D

Have a great trip, duchess! I hope the kids wake up feeling better in the morning! Wouldn't that be grand...then you could still get them pies!!

The rain just won't stop here. It's been raining 5 days straight, and if you count the on and off showeres the two days prior, that makes seven days.
Everything is flooded--the roads, parking lots, sidewalks, lawns. If I wanted to, I could fish off my balcony!
Heading to the house this weekend, bringing more stuff.
Closing on this condo Nov. 15, and then it's goodbye Long Island!
Luckily, the cable company where I am moving offers internet service...so I'm set with that. I can't go back to dial up. I just can't!!

Took my first sick day of the new year today.

HAd a stomach ache all day yesterday and ended the day with chills, fever and puking.

Yay, me!

Stomach ache is gone now. No longer puking. But I still feel like crap--my eyes feel crusty and burn and all I want to do is sleep.

Anyone want to bring me some chicken noodle soup and rub my back??

(erm...any one but MrKABC, that is?)

Poor Cho! Feel better soon!

I started out the day exhausted and crabby. We spent the weekend visiting my older daughter at college in Roanoke -- I drove 3.5 hours there, early Saturday morning, and 3.5 hours back last evening. We had a good visit but I was pooped! My younger daughter started feeling icky on the way home and stayed home from school today. I have less than a day of PTO left 'til my anniversary on 11/16, so I didn't have the option to stay home today <mutter grumble whine>.

Things got better, though. I found out Flook (a band that plays traditional Irish music) has released their new CD, so I ordered it from their website and should get it in a week or two -- happiness! :D

Back to work after four days off. meh.

One of the people in my department got her deployment orders today though -- she'll be off to Waco, Texas on Thursday for two weeks. :)

I still haven't heard a word about myself yet... :?

My foot is aching. This is probably because I have started trying to walk a bit more and do some exercises, now that my broken toe is more or less healed. But the foot is stiff from lack of use and still swollen. Definitely not back to normal yet.

I feel like a baby learning to walk again. :P

sorry you are in pain Mary - what is that saying "It's only a moment in time. It's only pain" I notice that's alot easier to say when your not hurting. Today I feel ok just an ouchie knee - that is soon to be replaced by modern joint technology

Well, made it thru another surgery and now on the mend :D

I just want to say that life, even tho it gets chaotic at times, is so glorious. There's a frost covering the world here on the Mountain. The pines are glistening in early morning sun and everything is so crisp and still. I ventured out, and walked a bit among them, and listened to nature's music. And I smiled and thanked God once again for the precious gifts He has given me.

"Oh me, Oh life..."

I think it is going to be a good day. :hearts:
