I can understand that. While the game looks amazing, the single player campaign pissed me off (for reasons Yahtzee pointed out here), and the multiplayer...

Well, my roommate says I should stick with it, and it'll be more fun. But I ask, why invest hours of play into something that isn't fun now, just so it'll be fun later?

(I know that attitude, if taken too far, could discourage you from learning any game which requires skill, but I don't think I'm being unreasonable in this case).
Exactly. I'm sure that if I spent another few weeks grinding away at it to improve my skills, eventually I'd be adept enough that I'd begin to enjoy the game. But the weeks of practice would be no fun at all.

You've definitely got to find a game that is fun while you're "leveling" or "skilling up" or whatever variation of learning they use. A push to the end is just a grind.

I'm playing WoW again, on the weekends. Has anyone played EVE before? What did you think?

Playing Madden '08 for the 360. Wow, is it an improvement of '07, while suffering from the same problems every Madden has, mainly blown blocks, it's still a very, very good game and I'm havin' a lot of fun and challenging frustration. Highly recommended for those that don't want to shell out more than $10 for the newer ones.

I recently finished Uncharted 2, which was kinda fun, but not as amazing as all the reviews seemed to suggest. The later train sequence is the part that redeems the game, but it still wasn't amazingly amazing. But it was the highlight of the game.

Now I'm starting Assassin's Creed, and while the storyline is much more up my alley, the controls are much less intuitive than Uncharted 2, and I miss it. But I'll probably just need to get used to it. Plus, I don't have an HD TV, and a lot of the instructions I'm getting (that annoyingly aren't in the booklet) are too small and blurry to read. But I'm excited.

Picked up Mass Effect 2 today, but didn't get to play it because I had school.

Tomorrow the kiddo will go in the freezer while I play (not literally, I'm a good mother y'all).

Before you get too involved in Assassin's Creed, I'll tell you now: take it back and pick up Assassin's Creed 2.

While I greatly enjoyed the first AC, and it was something different for its time, Ubisoft got it right the second time.

The first one was fairly innovative and Altair was cool, but it got repetitive very fast and I felt the story and character development fell flat. AC2 has everything from the first one and so much more.

Don't even worry about the storyline, either; it's nothing a healthy dose of Wikipedia can't handle. And they have a recap in the second one, as well.

Just IMHO.

It does tend to dominate, doesn't it? I have a hard time getting into other games when I play WoW.

MAG day has come. When I went on this afternoon there were literally three people in Suppression, and about thirty in Sabotage - so neither mode had enough for a match (they require 64 players).

I decided to wait until after 6pm, in case people came in from work/school/whatever and started playing. It must have worked, because when I came back I had no problems finding a match.

I've only played for about half an hour so far (because my girlfriend called me away for an argument) so it's too early to have formed an opinion. First impressions are that its smooth and the lighting is nice, the mechanics are fine..but that's about all I can say. People don't work as squads or platoons, and only a couple of people even speak (and when they do, they indulge in the usual "how did he kill me?" stuff) so it really just felt like any other shooter. My squad mates were highlighted for me so I always knew roughly where they were, but the whole thing about squads having their own objectives doesn't seem to have manifested. Everyone just does their own thing.

Hmm. Time will tell, I suppose. If it turns out to be disappointing, it's still early enough days that I should be able to make most of my money back on ebay. We'll see how it goes as I play it more.

I'm really enjoying it. It has some pacing issues, and the many many many references to things from the first two games make it a bit of a headache to follow the plot, but it's largely very well executed. Taking Snake around a war-torn middle eastern city in Act 1 was quite a break from Metal Gear tradition, and made for a pleasant change.

The Metal Gear Solids tend to be like films punctuated by bits of game.
