Gotta transcribe the note when you get it back! I'm so curious!

He was calm the whole ride 50-mile ride and mostly just rested and looked around with its tongue hanging out.

After its first feeding and watering it follows me everywhere.

Pics forthcoming!

Seareach wrote:I've been having a hilarious few days. For those who don't do facebook and aren't my "friend": Last Sunday I got a call from my dad saying that his neighbour had come around saying that there was a Robyn Butler mentioned in the Herald Sun (our second largest newspaper in the state of Victoria). He wanted to know whether it was me.

Well....it was me. Someone over Easter was camping on the Murray River and found a bottle floating down the river. They retrieved it and found it had a note in it written by me in 1986 when I was 12!!!! Well, I'll be hornswaddled! So started the "who is Robyn Butler and where is she now" saga.

So, I contacted the paper and said "It is me!" and also asked could I have details of the person who found the bottle so I could try and get it back. I've been in contact with the woman whose grandson got the bottle and she agreed to send it back. Yay! My letter to the paper ended up printed yesterday. And when I got home there was a message on my answering machine from our regions newspaper the Star asking was I the Robyn Butler mentioned in the paper and would I like to do an interview.

On top of that, I then got a phone call this morning from the Guardian newspaper in Swan Hill (where I lived as a teen, where my parents still live, and where I threw the bottle in the river) asking could they do an article...so I did a phone interview.

And the Herald Sun would like a picture of me with the bottle once I get it back...
I would love to see the article when it is published. Wasn't there a movie like this? Kevin Costner or something.

hehehe... Lurch, I'm kinda getting tired of my new found fame.

For those interested, here's the two articles. And I actually got the bottle back today. Really cool. I've taken a photo of myself with it and sent it to the Herald Sun (as requested) so I'll see if I can get a hat-trick and three things in the paper! hehehehe

I'll post the other articles when they're printed. :)

Oh, Balon, the note reads: To the finder of this bottle: my name is Robyn Butler. I sent this letter so to see how far it would reach. You are the lucky person to find it. This bottle was sent from the Pioneer Settlement bridge on 28.8.86. My address is xxxxxxx I've then signed it and written I am 12 years of age and go to Swan Hill High School. I love writing stories and paddle steamers.

hahahahaha! I was so square (and still am!). Funnily enough, if they'd sent a letter to the post office box I'd put in the note it would have got to me--my parents still live in Swan Hill and still use that PO Box!

Robyn, I remember finding that bottle back on June 17, 1999, on Daytona beach. I read the letter, put it back in the bottle, and put the bottle back in the ocean. I had to return it, due to insufficient funds.

Very cool, Sea! :)

Thanks for all the good wishes for Batty, you guys. :) She's out of the hospital and back at home -- actually, she went back to work today. The endoscopy didn't show anything conclusive so she'll have to have a colonoscopy in a couple of weeks (oh joy, oh rapture :( ). In the meantime, I'm here through the weekend. Magickmaker and I are supposed to get donuts tomorrow morning. Mmmm, donuts...

Colonoscopy is a breeze compared to endoscopy. I get one every year. Go to sleep and poof, it's over. :D

Yes, so a friend said to me yesterday but I told him if he found it that fascinating he could write a story about it! hehehehe...not meaning to sound dismissive, Lorin, but today I'm just over the whole thing. I'm not used to so much attention.

Maybe you just have the wrong perspective about the whole thing. There is a wonderful message (excuse the pun ) about the whole thing. I won't repeat myself. I posted about it on the 'Fest thread.

I had a good day today and have no idea why it was good, just feel ok for a change. I even put on a cute skirt above the knee, a nice sweater and looked kinda girlie for once. Kinda hot for an almost 56 year old woman. Just walked 3.2 miles 8O I am one sweaty woman. Have to say, it really does help my state of mind. But every single night after a 2 1/2 hour commute, I fight with myself to put on those sneakers and start walking. Man do I have some great excuses not to walk.

My neighbor got a pitbull puppy. 3 months old, she has had him for a month. He was chewing on a toy and I went to pet him and he went after me. 3 months and already aggressive. I try never to make judgements, I love all dogs, but this is trouble waiting to happen. And to top it off my neighbor immediately accused me of 'doing something to him'. I am used to aggressive dogs, after all I have helldog, but she never ever went after a person, just barks a lot.

Making blackbeans, Puerto Rican style for dinner with brown rice. I am having a hard time with my diet. Gained 5 lbs. I am hoping it is muscle from all the walking.

Here's the article from the Herald Sun today

And, yes, I really did say that bit at the bottom. Thought I should give some kind of wishy-washy comment but I think I went overboard!!

So the job is....going. I'm not enamored with it and I'm extremely busy. The hours are crazy and sometimes I'm gone when my son goes to bed.

I help the elderly at home. Doing things around the home, personal care (yes, that includes incontinence clean up duties), etc. The satisfaction of helping those who cannot help themselves if fulfilling, but it's hard work.

Meh. It pays, but not very well. And no benefits, either. Siiiigh.
