My thanks to you, and I will try to have another Mordant's Need trivia question up before the weekend arrives. :yeehaa:
You're quite welcome. I agree that his writing brings in so much detail, yet none of it is wasted. Even this revelation is foreshadowed early on where it is observed that Elega and Myste looked like "indoor and outdoor versions of each other" (or words to that effect).

Yes, and the "indoor and outdoor versions of each other" part is indeed a hint that they favor the same parent in appearance. Good catch, IS, I never noticed that! 8O

Okay, for the next Mordant's Need trivia question, I'm going to stick with the subjects of Elga and Myste.

When Myste visits Elega in the Alend camp, she doesn't trut Elega and tries to leave shortly after a meeting with her. Elega shares a message she got from their father that persuades Myste to trust Elega . What did that message say from King Joyse say?

As usual, I will allow some time for others to have a chance to answer. :)

That sounds about right, Avatar! Let me check the relevant quote again, and I'll post again in this thread, shortly.

Fair enough, IrrationalSanity, and I feel that way, too! Having read MN six times, it's rather hard to stump me on these trivia questions (although you and Sam have done a pretty good job forcing me to think harder, I admit).. It's good to let others reading this thread know that they can have a chance to answer, too!
She [Elega] was about to shout for a[n Alend] soldier when a new thought flashed through her, a bolt of illumination.

Before her sister reached the tentflap, she said, "Father sent me a message, Myste."

Myste stopped immediately; she turned, came back toward Elega. As if involuntarily, she asked, "What was it?"

Too absorbed in Myste's importance to be self-conscious, Elega answered, "Castellan Lebbick brought it. According to him, Father said, 'I am sure that my daughter Elega has acted for the best reasons. She carries my pride with her wherever she goes. For her sake, as well as for my own, I hope that the best reasons will also produce the best results.'"

Unexpectedly, Myste closed her eyes. Tears spread under her lashes and down her cheeks, but for a long moment she didn't move or speak. Then she looked radiantly at her sister, smiling like a new day.

"Of course," she breathed. "Why did I not see it for myself?"

At once, she returned to her chair. Smiling so beautifully that she wrung Elega's heart, she said, "Very well. Ask me something specific."
I am sure that my daughter Elega has acted for the best reasons. She carries my pride with her wherever she goes. For her sake, as well as for my own, I hope that the best reasons will also produce the best results. I'd say that you got the gist of the message right, Avatar! Good going, and it's your question!!

I wouldn't have been quite so lenient for a first guess, but yeah the "intent" is correct, and that is indeed the "public" message. Still, I would have held out for her acting for the best reasons, as this is the "private" message where he passes on the clue (which Myste picked up on) that he was acting by design.

Haha, you can have the question if you like... :D

Otherwise, how did Gilbur die? :D

Nope - it was Cord's question, and he is the final arbiter of "correctness" for the answer, so your question stands as the next. I just would have been a bit pickier due to the embedded meaning.

As for yours, again, the answer springs readily to mind, so let's see if someone else can pull it out of their hat. :)

Thank you for your understanding, Sanity, and perhaps next time I'll play a little harder-to-get as the question-bearer. :?: :smack:

You're breakin' my heart, man. Do you want to wrestle for the right to answer? ;)

It does sound like it comes down to a contest of wills, doesn't it? :ct05: :ct06:

(I can just picture Avatar cringing...) ;)

But hopefully someone will have picked up on our subtle (like a used car salesman's plaid jacket) hints.

Have the KW readers seeing these recent posts in this thread read the books, and have a good memory of the story? If so, then they likely have the ears that hear the meaning loud and clear. Image

But they shouldn't strain themselves to master the situation, to the point of keeling over from the effort. :faint:

It's import they have the heart to get through this mysterious challenge. Image

I seem to recall Gilbur dies of a heart attack brought on from the strain of a battle of wills with Geraden to control a mirror translation of an earthquake. Something like that.

Haha, correct, he died of a heart attack. :D Sorry that took so long. :D

Your question.

Thank you Avatar. I think it was fun having both IrrationalSanity and myself dancing around the answers a bit. I'll come up with a new question, soon.

Agreed. :) I'm looking forward to it.
