I'm goin'ta skip the everso tempting and nearly irrifusable response (using all my willpower), and go with Jungle Book response, "now don't sta't tha' again."

Not really.

The story is pretty lame, the ending anti-climactic, the acting average...it's the "feel" Scott is famous for that is absolutely stunning and awe-inspiring...the music, tone, color palette...hardly ever rivaled in that...but the story and non-artistic ends of the film just don't hold up against other films taughted so high by Geekdom...IMnHO...

wrong. wrong wrong wrong. sooo wrong. yer just wrong. yer so not right. completely incorrect.

its a piece of poetry.

its an extraction of a larger story. and a damn good extraction.
dick loved it.
he accused scott of being able to see inside his head.

so yer just...yer just...being obstinate. you're not liking it because
somebody you don't like likes it or something.

watch it again. watch scott's final edit. it's fabulous. stunning. riveting even.
smoke a doobie.
you'll love it, i swear.
:shifty:

I did, 'bout a month ago...that isn't an off-the-cuff opinion...serious, average film, amazing atmosphere...

Well, since opinion can't be wrong, we'll ignore all that static.

But, as I've said before, I agree. Blade Runner is gorgeous-looking B movie....It's form above function. I find it interesting that Dick loved it, as he died months before the film was released and had only read the script and seen a few effects sequences.

I'm not calling the film a turd, but it differs vastly from the book in ways that (in my opinion) make it a completely separate work from Dick's novel. The two should not be compared or even mentioned in the same sentence.

From a production and design standpoint, Blade Runner was groundbreaking. I think it failed miserably at telling its story and/or telling Dick's.

Okay, I'll cede that the ending was pretty good...but for the rest, I'm with the Haruchai...

I feel like it WOULD be a B-movie, if it weren't for Rutger Haur's heart wrenching performance at the end of the movie. (And 80's Darryl Hannah... my GOD man.)

It's no Minority Report. Or The Fountain.

My top 5 sci-fi (I cant rank 'em)

*2001: A Space Odyssey
*12 Monkeys
*Minority Report
*Alien
*Children of Men

I liked Children of Men a lot...but it felt a little unpolished...not quite up to the top level for me...

Unpolished? It might be the most technically spectacular movie of all time. Micheal Bay doesn't hold a candle to Alfonso Cuaron. 20 minute cut of a battle scene... my jaw was on the floor of the cinema.

Absolutely. There's nothing remotely unpolished about that film.
