Best concert I ever saw...Tesla opened up for Def Leppard on the first leg of the Hysteria tour in '87. The album really hadn't hit yet, and it was one of the first shows on the tour. Them boys were out to prove something.

GWAR was just here on Tuesday. Wish I could've made the show.

Rasputina's a cool band.

Rasputina was very odd, they did their version of "Rollerskate" or whatever it is called. one of my favorite concerts i left off by mistake...

I saw Drive Like You Stole It on saturday. Good British band, ridiculously little-known. I hung around with the band for a while, which was nice, and I was one of a mere four people who were specifically thanked for our support at the end of the set

Planning to see Rammstein when they come to Nottingham in February.

Saw Clutch on the 28th (along with Never Been Caught and High on Fire, both decent). Hell of a show. I probably had the best time ever at a concert. The mob really did go wild, I tell you. The only problem I had with it is that after the end of The Soapmakers, they kind of just jammed out and completely lost momentum. At the end, my only thought was "That's it?" But, the first 3/4s of the show made up for it.

week before last i saw Camper Van Beethoven do a free show at Cactus music. did 5-6 songs. including my favorite...All Her Favorite Fruit.
then a day later all their gear was stolen in Dallas.

Went to see the New York Philharmonic in Ann Arbor last night. It was a pretty good show. Typical big classical concert in Ann Arbor -- there were people standing in front of Hill Auditorium with signs seeking tickets, scalpers, etc.

In the first part of the concert, only the string section (plus a couple of brass and a couple of woodwinds played). They did Mozart's 29th symphony, a typical light and fluffy Mozart piece. (I like his darker and deeper pieces like the Requiem and Don Giovanni but think a lot of the other things I have heard of his are well...light and fluffy).

For the second half the entire orchestra came out and did a great job with Mahler's 5th symphony. That piece moves from death and grief through acceptance, and finally to life and tentative joy. When the fantastic horn soloist stood up at the end to make his bow, a girl behind me started yelling

You are a badass! You are a badass!

at the top of her lungs. Only in Ann Arbor.

That's a riot!!

I went to see Thin Lizzy on Friday. Wasn't too sure what to expect without Philip Lynott in the line up but it was a good gig all in all.
Certainly better than when I saw another band from days gone by with a different line up about a year and a half ago.(Deep Purple)

saw Kristen Hersh last night. got her auto before the show. told her i was from new Hampshire (she is from Mass) she asked for song suggestions, I gave her two. during her set, acoustic, she looked at the list, saw my song ideas (Spain, Loon) and said "I wish I knew how to play that. the intent was there! after the show I got her new cd and she autoed it, saying "hey, it's you" and she smiled!
she then said "you sound like a Texan now, how long have you been here?" i told her some 8 years.
she told her husband, "he's from New Hampshire" so he and I talked, he asked for a good venue for her band %0 Foot Wave. I mentioned that Mike Watt always played the Engine Room. so if they go there, I'm taking credit! Kristen was so sweet! I have waited 20 years to see her live. It was so great!

Went to a great concert from the Kodo Drummers www.kodo.or.jp/ tonight. It was both a visual and auditory treat. Kodo plays traditional Japanese instruments, especially drums. I think some of their drums were just about as big as the first car I ever owned (a hooptyass 1977 Chevette).

Wonderful evening, a fun concert. Some of the music, such as singers acompanied by a wooden flute, were moving and gentle. Others, as when they came out and beat the huge drums, were very exciting, both to hear and to watch.

going to T in the Park again this year

Won me a pair of tickets yesterday from the radio station I listen to.
I'm going to Universal Stidios in Orlando to see Lynyrd Skynyrd on March 18th.
Tickets include park admission and the show.
(Regularly, you'd buy a ticket for park admission, and buy a separate ticket for a concert there.)

Can't wait for the Skynyrd Band and the roller-coaster ride "The Hulk".
(I like roller-coasters)

I've got tickets to see Los Lonely Boys (who sound like a combination of Clapton, Santana and Stevie Ray Vaughn) at a beautiful outdoor ampitheater in May and am trying to go see the Fixx (I love The Fixx--never thought they would ever tour again) in a small venue downtown.

Picked up my Lynyrd Skynyrd tickets today.
I was happy to learn that Universal Studios is having their Mardi Gras festivites also.
Already have a designated driver lined up, so it will be PARTY TIME!

note - 2nd time to see Skynyrd. The first time was in St.Petersburg, FL, two nights before their plane crashed. (1978?)

Saw Indigo Girls last night. Man, did I feel out of place. Those girls could play some guitar, though.

Queens of the Stone Age tomorrow night!
