Ethics? That could be interesting, or deadly dull depending on what kind of ethics they're talking about.

In about half an hour, I have to go and listen to a presentation on ethics. I anticipate needing a swift kick in order to stay awake through it. Or maybe just gobs o' caffeine.
I'd go for the latter.

Ethics
(via Latin ethica from the Ancient Greek
ἠθική [φιλοσοφία] "moral philosophy",
from the adjective of ἤθος ēthos "custom, habit"),
a major branch of philosophy, encompasses right
conduct and good life. It is significantly broader
than the common conception of analyzing right
and wrong. A central aspect of ethics is
"the good life", the life worth living or life that is
satisfying, which is held by many philosophers
to be more important than moral conduct.
The major problem is the discovery of the
summum bonum, the greatest good.

Back now. It wasn't too bad.

Just a review of what not to do if you work for a law firm (don't reveal confidential info, don't send letters to the editor on firm letterhead, etc.).
There's a suspicion going around that this was prompted by an article in the local paper last week. One of our secretaries was interviewed for her participation in a conference on polyamorous relationships. There was a picture of her standing in front of a chart she'd drawn, linking her and her partners to *their* partners. There were quite a few names!

Kinda wacky. The article didn't name our firm but it did say she was a legal secretary.
There's not much they can say about what you do in your personal life. But still. Wow.

Breaking Benjamin - Polyamorous
www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AXD-Nr2oFE
Polyamory (from Greek πολυ (poly, meaning many or several) and Latin amor (literally “love”) is the desire, practice, or acceptance of having more than one loving, intimate relationship at a time with the full knowledge and consent of everyone involved. Polyamorous perspectives differ from monogamous perspectives, in that they reflect one or more partner's wish(es) to have further meaningful relationships and to accommodate these alongside their existing relationships.
The term polyamory is sometimes abbreviated to poly, especially as a form of self-description, and is sometimes described as consensual and/or responsible non-monogamy.
Polyamory is usually taken as a description of a lifestyle or relational choice and philosophy, rather than of an individual's actual relationship status at a given moment. It is an umbrella term that covers many orientations and modes of relationship. There is fluidity in its definition to accommodate the different shades of meaning which might be covered. Polyamorous relationships are themselves varied, reflecting the choices and philosophies of the individuals concerned.
Polyamory is distinct from polygamy, being closer to a personal outlook than a predefined bonding system. It is grounded in such concepts as choice, trust, equality of free will, and the more novel idea of compersion, rather than in cultural or religious tradition.

Polyamory isn't that bad to understand. Clan Marriages, on the other hand.
And why does no one ever hear about Polyandry?

Aren't you forward thinking?

So you'd be willing to share a wife with another husband?

Never said I'd be willing to.
I simply said I have no problem with others doing it.

So. . . let me get this straight. . . you're forward thinking enough to endorse such behavior, but privately don't agree with it enough to actually engage in it yourself. Does this make you hypocrite?

No, it doesn't make me a hypocrite. Standards of behaviour are relative. While that sort of relationship probably would not make me happy, if there are those who it does make happy, I'm all for them doing it.

In Dublin's fair city,
Where the girls are so pretty,
I first laid my eyes on sweet Molly Malone,
She wheels her wheelbarrow
Through streets broad and narrow,
Crying, "Cockles and mussels, alive, alive oh"!
Alive, alive oh! alive, alive oh!
Crying, "Cockles and mussels, alive, alive oh"!
She died of the fever,
And no one could save her,
And that was the end of sweet Molly Malone.
But her ghost wheels her barrow,
Through streets broad and narrow,
Crying, "Cockles and mussels, alive, alive oh"!
Alive, alive oh! alive, alive oh!
Crying, "Cockles and mussels, alive, alive oh"!
A bit of the old ultraviolence.
