Love the poem about fighting, and sorry, I don't have the books here with me. Something like this:

Do not kill where maiming is enough
Do not maim where hurting is enough
Do not hurt where holding is enough
Do not hold where speaking is enough

I know that last line is wrong; the poem just sounds cool to me; part of the Oath of Peace, I think.........

It's from Fatal Revenant but it isn't a spoiler by itself. I love how it shows Linden standing up against impossible odds and overcoming defeat through determination and belief

Linden should have quailed. His certainty was as bitter as the touch of a Raver: it should have defeated her. But it did not. How often had she heard Lord Foul or his servants prophesy destruction, attempting to impose despair? And how often had Thomas Covenant shown her that it was possible to stand upright under the weight of utter hopelessness?

Balon quoted my favorite earlier on this thread with "Are you a storyteller Thomas Covenant?".....there are so many great moments in these books...one that I remember as being my favorites was at the end of white gold wielder...when linden avery was using the staff of law to clear up the sunbane and transitioning out of the Land...her friends could no longer see her...but they could see the results of what she had done...and pitchwife threw his head back and cried out loudly..."Linden Avery, have I not always said that you were well chosen!?" It almost made me cry.

Two of my favorites...

In "The Power That Preserves", when Mhoram goes up to Glimmermere.

He had to do something that was obviously impossible. He had to slay Samadhi Satansfist.

He would need help.

And, of course, faithful Drinny answers his call.

In "White Gold Wielder" (from memory, I may have it a bit off), after Gibbon-Raver has been rent, and Covenant is on his way to the Banefire, Findail joins him.

"You go to your death, Ring-wielder. It is a valiant hazard. I know not how I may prove worthy of you, but I will not leave your side."

all of the arguments with Hile Troy were amazing.

"You call this health ? It's a lie !"

And of course:

"LEPER!"

The Forestal Song, especially the final verse sung by the Forrestal himself:

"But ax and fire leave me dead,
I know the hate of hands grown bold.
Depart to save your heartsap's red,
My hate knows neither rest nor weal."

It still gives me chills!

Also this one: "Nekrimah! Vain save me!" Followed by some very violent actions from our dark friend.

This might be a bit contentious given the errr......not 100% positive reaction to the third Chrons, but for my favorite quote (and take it as you will) read my tag line or whatever it is called, on the bottom of my postings .

Quaan to Covenant after Soaring Woodhelven, "If you speak again, I will break your arm."

He was the first person, other than Triock, who didn't kiss Covenants ass, especially when he was being a jerk.

I've read through the thread and all are excellent quotes that I wish I had come up with first. I would like however to site a quote that has stuck with me for the thirty-odd years since I first read it. It is a poem from the "pre-land" section of LFB and it gave me my first real indication of the depth of TC's bitterness and depression:

These are the pale deaths
which men miscall their lives:
for all the scents of green things growing,
each breath is but an exhalation of the grave.
Bodies jerk like puppet corpses,
and hell walks laughing--

Especially at that time, this poem really spoke to me.

My high school yearbook quote

Finally re-reading LFB, I guess...
Hadn't noticed how AMAZING the dialogue between Covenant and Bannor is.
The mismatch... is incredible.
It's one great line after another!

"But for two thousand years?" Covenant protested. "Damnation! It isn't even decent. Don't you think you've done enough?"

And another:

He couldn't conceive of how a healthy man remained unsuicidal in the face of so much existence.
"It isn't like salad dressing-- you can't just spoon it around. You're human. You weren't born to be immortal."

Comparing "so much existence" to salad dressing... such... genius on the part of SRD.

My favorite quote has to be his most consistent, at least in the sense that it summed up so much of his character, and every way he interpreted everything.

"Don't Touch Me"
