I've always been good about prioritising the Watch over anything unimportant.
Still just barely made a dent in my mails though, most of yesterday was meetings, and then of course we always leave early every day for the first week back, just to ease us back into things.

I'm trying to picture the look on my boss's face if I suggested such a thing. I think he'd probably send me for a drug test.
We had an earthquake in the middle of the night last night. Kara was basically melted on top of me at the time, and she levitated when the shaking started. I realize that earthquakes always feel longer than they actually are, but that cat went straight into cartoon physics with the amount of time she spent in the air.

Well, at least it's Friday. By Monday everything will be back to normal, so enjoying it while it lasts.

I got to go home on time today. I generally end up staying 2-3 hours late on Friday, since Friday is two days of work in one big happy package thanks to corner-cutting from the Mothership. I don't usually complain because OT is nice, but going home on time on a Friday is very nice too.

Just to say Happy New Year to everyone, and I hope that 2018 proves to be a good one.

Oh, SORUS- I got sick (on 1/1) promptly after you told everyone who hadn't gotten sick to not get sick. (12/31, methinks.)
I slipped that one through on a loophole, see?

Darn loopholes. They'll get you every time.
I'm irked (big understatement) right now because I just found out that back on December 24th, my workplace decided to cut the maximum of vacation hours we can have in half. Merry Christmas to us, I guess. They didn't bother to even issue a memo on the subject, so I just found out today. Since I was already at the max, I lost half of it. For better or for worse, my boss was also affected by it, so he's putting effort into trying to get us compensated for the time. I don't know whether he will be successful, since in my conversation with HR department, I was told that there were no plans to compensate us. Bad enough that they won't let me take vacation, but I earned that time. It would have been paid out if I had quit. Can they really just snap their fingers and make it vanish?

Wow! Thats effectively theft, surely they cant take away an accrued entitlement. You certainly couldnt here as such things are protected by a suite of industrial laws. You just cant do that here. In Australia everyone is entitled to a prescribed number of hours per year. And definitely no changes can be made in the absence of consultation with all effected parties.

Hey all.
Linna, when it comes to benefits, unfortunately your employer can pretty much treat you however they like. (ali inserts sad and outraged tale of how she very nearly didn't get the sabbatical she'd worked ten years to receive, thanks to benefits changes due to the Great Recession) Unless you have a union, that is. And I'll just leave it there...

Ali!
I agree that it's theft, but it does seem to be legal. Not even bothering with a memo is just insult to injury though. Guess they were afraid (rightfully) that people would scramble to use the time before it vanished. Sneaky edits. Seems like we lose a benefit every year. And they wonder why it's so hard to hire/retain good people.
I got a raise at the beginning of the year, which was unexpected and nice, and after just 2,400 hours, it will make up for what I lost in vacation pay.
(And yes, I did actually say 'edits' there, because what I originally typed was not fit for polite company.)

Hahahaha.. so we are polite company ... bows graciously.... its not often I get accused of being that lol

nay I jest
It would be illegal here.
We have industrial relations laws to safeguard peoples entitlements. Its less of an issue to change future entitlements though.
But already acquired leave would need to be compensated by law. And especially if it is leave acquired in lieu of additional hours worked.
And a lack of consultation is a very poor way to treat your workers.

Yeah, it would be illegal here too. Said it before, your guys labour laws are all kinds of messed up. The best interests of the workers really don't seem to get much consideration, let alone fairness etc. It all seems to be in favour of the employers.
(Hi Ali...shame on you for not visiting more often.

Av ... youve got to come up with a better motivational approach.
Guilt bombing isnt necessarily as effective as you think

You know that OLD saying about flies and honey
Why anyone would want to catch flies is a whole other issue
