I agree about American Psycho. I have a tough time seeing him as anything but. Especially in the Batman movie when he was going as the Partygoing Playboy Bruce Wayne (action figure now available at www.imaliar.com).

I thought Bale was excellent in A Reign of Dragons, as well. In fact that movie was very good until Matthew McConagehy turned it into a cartoon--the ending was awesome though. Fantasy apprears to suit him.

Ioan Gruffud is the perfect choice! Daniel Day-Lewis would also be an excellent choice. Either actor would bring the talent and range worthy of Thomas Covenant. As far as the Haruchai go, they should be athletically built Greek or Italian actors with extensive martial arts training. That fits the "brown skinned and curly hair" description, as well as the slightly lilting accent.

Lord Foul's voice? Tim Curry, (with some digital enhancement that would shift his pitch down like in Legend), or Christopher Lee without any enhancement at all.

Gary Oldman would make an excellent Lord Mhoram. I haven't given much thought to who would make a good Linden Avery, but Nicole Kidman comes to mind right off the bat, and she definitely has the ability.

Of course the movie would require extensive CGI of unprecedented quality, so the only two companies that could pull that off is Industrial Light and Magic or WETA Digital, provided a sufficient budget is available. Also, I still say that John McTiernan would be the ideal director. He could pull it off better than anyone and he wouldn't carry the price tag that guys like James Cameron or Ridley Scott would.

From what I understand, all this rides on having enough MONEY to do it right. So here's an idea: Take up a collection! As broke as I am, I wouldn't hesitate a second to cough up 50 bucks a month for a year to see this movie made. With 1269 registered members on this board, we probably couldn't raise enough to have a significant impact on the movie budget, but we could conceivably generate enough to make the studio sit up and take notice! This would be a first in Hollywood history, and if a potential studio saw that the Chronicles had such a loyal following, it could conceivably sway them in their decision to cough up a worthy budget. Or maybe this is just infantile wishful thinking, but hey, we ARE talking about the best Fantasy Fiction series ever written, so give me a break for being overly enthusiastic.

Those of you who doubt the mighty Bale, watch Batman Begins; if you've already seen it, do so again. Bale in the prison scenes is Thomas Covenant. And no-one can be more gaunt than Bale in The Machinist.

Err... is this "Parody of Who I'd like to be in the Movie?" The first one, at least.

I can never see Ben Browder as anything other than Farscape'sJohn Crichton, and as well as he plays the pain-wracked, sarcastic lost-in-space type, he's really too funny, just like Hugh Laurie is ultimately too funny to be Covenant.

I ll cry if/when the TC films are made because they will make the Haruchai asian-esque and i always imagined them black - african if you will - i will cry...

I agree, I always saw the Haruchai as kind of light-skinned black men. There's a lot of room for interpretation within the term "brown skin". That's why movies made of books can kind of suck. They alter what you have in your head.
