To make it worse, I should have guessed PENAL second. But I was too wary of those kinds of guesses, so I went for GROIN, since, if that confirmed the N, I'd know if it was PENAL or RENAL. I suppose having guessed PENAL would have accomplished much the same thing. But I did get G, R, and O elsewhere, so it was helpful in the long run.
Still, FECAL/DECAL, CROCK/CROOK, WAGER/BARGE, and PINCH/PUNCH lost me too much ground.
