Just wanted to say thanks for the warm welcome, even though i am doing it so belatedly. As luck would have it, my router went down the day after i signed on here and i have been offline until this morning. Also, welcome to my fellow new members here.

Hi,

I read The Runes of the Earth a few months ago and that inspired me to start re-reading the origial chronicles. I first read the series about 20 years ago but haven't picked up any of the books in a decade or more. I was pleased to find this site and have been lurking around for a few weeks checking it out. I have found the threads to be interesting, informative and occasionally very humorous. I am glad that others have the same questions that I have and the same love of The Land that I have developed. I look forward to reading more of the discussions and putting in my own opinions for you to laugh at and tear apart

Astrobiology is kind of a wide field that incorporatates a variety of academic interests. In general it is concerned with the study of life off of our own planet. There are two main groups of astrobiologists: those who try and figure out how Earthly life forms can survive and grow in non-earth environments e.g. spaceships, space stations, the moon, mars, etc; and those who try and figure out what alien life might be like and how we might be able to detect it. I fall in the first group and work mainly with plants and yeasts trying to see if they can be used a food sources and air, water and waste recyclers for our space program. There is a good website on astrobiology here.

I think that I would fall into the latter catagory.
As a kid, I always wondered what Alien Life Forms look like.
(Got bored of the movie-style "human" shaped aliens.)
Sometimes I try to envision lifeforms that don't have solid bodies.
(ice crystals, gas-forms, liquid or spore).
One of these days I will learn to draw good enough to put on paper what I come up with.
Never thought of a way to detect, other than visual.
