On my computer I make letters with accents by using a variety of character codes, like so:Furls Fire wrote: How do you make the little dots above the "u" in Wurd??? I'm soooooooo computer dense sometimes...
"Alt" + 0252 makes ü
"Alt" + 0233 makes é
"Alt" + 0232 makes è
"Alt" + 0225 makes á
...etc.
When you type the numbers, use the set of numbers on the right side of the keyboard, not the ones above the letters. If you have a laptop without a grouping like that, the numbers will probably be somewhere on the letters of the keyboard (on mine I have to press "alt + fn + mklk" to get "è," for example).
If you go into Microsoft Word, under the "Insert" menu click "Symbols..." and it will give you a list of all the possible symbols and accented letters you can use in a document, along with the codes to make them. All the ones above are under the "Latin Extended-A" subset.
This is the sum of all my computer knowledge, and I only have this from having to learn to type in french (I came very close to falling asleep during that class...)

Hi folks
Just registered, so thought I'd drop in to say 'Hi!'.
I've been a big fan of Donaldson's work since I first read LFB back when I was about 10 or 11 (so, '80 or '81). I'm one of the few people I know who read the chronicles before reading LOTR or any other fantasy, so it's always had a special place in my heart. I've re-read LFB more than any other novel (and I very rarely reread a novel at all) - it's my 'comfort book', that I turn to when I want to lose myself in a pleasant place for a while (The other book I reread a lot is '1984', for when I've had enough of pleasant places :) ).
I also really enjoyed the Mordant's Need books, although it's been a long while since I read them and I haven't got round to giving them a second read yet.
And, finally, I am a *HUGE* fan of the Gap series. The way our view of the characters evolves as we get more information on them, and the way the characters' views of each other, their motivations and actions also change based on the information *they* have at a given point in time, is just masterful. The intricate plot, tightly styled prose... well, I'd better stop before this turns into a long fanboy gush. You get the idea - I'm rather fond of this series :)
So, um, anyway, 'Hi folks!'.
